Description |
This painting depicts an incident from early in the life of Han Xin. He was born into a poor family and often went hungry. Once, an old washer-woman by a river took pity on him and offered him food. Han Xin told her he would repay her when he had made his fortune, but she rebuffed him saying she had not given him the food in the expectation of any reward. Eventually, he would rise to become a powerful minister of the Han dynasty. |
