Description

Prairie falcons are occasionally spotted on Seedskadee NWR. Some years, a pair or two will nest on the cliff faces along the Green River. During the spring and fall migrations, they can be spotted in the sage steppe hunting the large flocks of horned larks. Least chipmunks are also high on their list of preferred prey items. They are a medium sized falcon, about the size of a crow. They have incredible agility in the air and can reach unbelievable speeds in a full dive. Keeping up with a prairie falcon on the move can be quite a challenge.
