generation. At present, 4 lb. packages, often 12 to 18inches long, may go anywhere and with the rapidity of letters and newspapers. It requires some skill and experience to properly pack plants, but there is no mystery about it.Oil paper is laid down, the roots of the plants compressed, damp moss laid among and all over theroots, wrapped around with the oil paper, then oyer all with tough dry paper, and this secured bysmall cords. Then with stamps equal to 2 cents for each 4 ounces (as the law is at present), andproper direction, the work is done. By mail they are sownbroadcast over our extended country. CATALOGUE OF READING NURSERY, MASS —J. W. MANNING, PROPRIETOR. 35

So much has been written on this subject, that it is hard to con-dense or abridge, and so many are the results they encourage. The most trenchant facts of treeplanting for forests are found in the West, published by gentlemen whom we well know. We will here record our own experience.
