Summary

[edit]
Description Hermes, a male American Kestrel, was brought into a rehab center at about a week old. The nest was found on the ground and no parents were visible. Four baby kestrels were alive but Hermes had a broken leg, so he was treated at the facility. That treatment required him to be handled and fed by the volunteers. This habituation with people turned him into what is called a "dual imprint" – meaning he is imprinted both visually and by food to humans. He can never be released because he is bonded to humans, not his own kind. He will live out the remainder of his life with ODOT Accounting Technician Suzanne DesIlets.
