DescriptionSouth Atlantic Anomaly.PNG |
English: Countrates for proton elementary particles in the energy range of 30-80 keV (kilo electronVolt) of two satellites measured in their orbits around the earth at a height of 850 kilometers. Horizontal axis: geographical longitude, vertical axis: geographical latitude. The red island with count rates over 32/second constitutes the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA). The SAA had shifted to lower longitudes in 2005 (center around 300 degrees) with respect to 1978 (330 degrees). NOAA Tiros: the first? Tiros-N weather satellite of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA POES-15: U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration low-altitude Polar Orbiting Environmental Satellites (POES)-15 satellite. |
