Summary

[edit]
Description

Four frame infrared mosaic of Titan's surface acquired by Cassini as it approached the moon for the T-89 flyby on Februrary 17, 2013. At the time, Cassini was ~625,000 km from the moon.

This image captures Titan's southern hemisphere, with the dark equatorial Belet region the primary visible surface feature. This is one of the many large equatorial dune fields present on Titan. The bright Adiri region, which is likely a highlands region of pure water ice crust pokes through the dune fields at the 3 o'clock position. The growing winter polar vortex, which forms over the polar regions during the 14.5-year polar night, is also visible at the 7 o'clock position.
