File:ChateauDeRentilly.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please look carefully before accusing people of violation. It's obvious that the website commit the violation of my picture, not the contrary. Thank you. sanchezn (talk) 13:37, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

No need to worry on deletion tags. I just thought of verifying this with another commons user since the website in question was not in English, that's it. In fact, someone had emailed this link to OTRS copyright violation and so I wanted to cross check. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:56, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Reverting of watermark removals?

Hi Sreejithk2000, I noticed you reverted your own removal of the watermark on File:Pulsatilla Blueten mg-k.jpg, and I'm not sure why because I think you did a very good job. Can you clarify? Thanks. Dcoetzee (talk) 18:18, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Another user complained on my English Wiki talk page that the watermark removal was not perfect. So I thought I will leave it for someone else who can do better. --Sreejith K (talk) 02:58, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello Sreejithk2000, I have sent a reply regarding the permission of the file in question. I am not sure how OTRS works, so you may not be the same person who receives it. So just a heads up in case there is a way for you to read the reply rather than another OTRS volunteer.

The subject of the email is "Re: Re: [Ticket#2011020310003823] OTRS: File:Ommbartvent2.jpg (Additional clarification of permissions)". I have forwarded a copy of the last exchange with the author of the picture in which he examined the file itself as it had been uploaded in Commons. I hope that is good enough to ascertain that the author is aware and approves of the license and the location of the file. Thank you. --ObsidinSoul 13:27, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

For this time, I have approved the OTRS. Please use the email template listed in commons from the next time onwards so that we can avoid multiple emails back and forth. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:34, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. :) Will do so in the future if ever I need to. --ObsidinSoul 15:55, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

File:Franne Golde Main.jpg has been undeleted as per your request. --Captain-tucker (talk) 16:16, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Sreejithk2000, I wonder about your change of author name[1], as I was in direct communication with Ricardo Camacho and was told on my request, that this photo was taken by Lourdes Chávez Correa, the deceased spouse of Arias Murueta, and that it was o.k. for Mr. Murueta to have this information in the description. Did he change his mind? --Túrelio (talk) 07:48, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

In Richardo's OTRS email, he said he is the creator and/or sole owner of the exclusive copyright of this image. He must have copied and pasted it from the OTRS email template, but I have to go with what the email says. Perhaps you can talk to Richardo about this and see what he thinks about it. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:56, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
I could forward you the related email, if it's kept confidential. --Túrelio (talk) 08:06, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
That might not be helpful. Since the OTRS email contains Richardo's name as the owner, any time any OTRS volunteer can come and correct the image page. So if you/Richardo would like to have the data corrected on the image page, I will recommend replying back to the OTRS confirmation email giving the correct details on the owner. May be, you can forward his email to OTRS as well, but keep the OTRS ticket number in the subject line so that the emails are grouped together in the system. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:00, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Civility

As commented on the talk page of a file Diff. Good faith and civility is shown to those who deserves, Such kind of blanketing will not be provided for user's who uploads all the content from internet. Its clear that the purticular picture is uploaded from the face-book fan-page of the actor by Rama Sethu, 'Actor' himself responding on wikipedia for the first time, and its only for this picture, How the actor came to know that this picture is going to be deleted, did Rama_Sethu tell him, if its so the first one need to comment about the DR is the up-loader...and such instance gives a perfect picture of dramatis personæ. If the commenter and uploader are same a checkuser varification is required.. If you have anything to write about the nominators user page or his style of commenting, its better to write on there talk page rather than writing in the file talk (Which may not seen all the time) ...Captain......Tälk tö me.. 14:13, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

If people like Mammootty] and A R Rahman can be very active on the internet, Pratap Pothen can do that too. It does not matter how Pratap Pothen will get to know that his photo has been uploaded in commons, may be someone send him a message through facebook itself. Assuming good faith means that you trust the IP who commented but politely tell him that that is not enough and that he will have to send an OTRS email as righfully done by User:Túrelio. That the actor is 100% busy and that he himself cannot comment on the file talk are your assumptions and it only shows that you do not willing to have good faith on the IP. I hope this makes sense. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:24, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Your comments are also only assumptions..If people like Mammootty and A R Rahman can be very ...... There is no surety on that matter, and active in wikipedia is not like active in internet.. a copyvio up-loader will pretend like anything to have that image rescued from deletion, but that doesn't mean that civility and good faith need to be assumed on all his uploads.. (I have marked 1 more upload us copyvio) as you yourself have a doubt on my image and reported as missing permission.....Captain......Tälk tö me.. 14:33, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
I never claimed "I believes in assuming good faith". I just pointed out that you are claiming it and you are not doing it. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:57, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Then its better not to talk regarding my POV and you cannot question, keep inline with your work......Captain......Tälk tö me..

American Gothic

Hi. You recently responded to my OTRS message regarding the American Gothic painting, which was repeatedly uploaded and deleted because the copyright supposedly hasn't expired. However, I (Alexander) have uploaded a new version of the painting that can be found at File:Grant DeVolson Wood - American Gothic.jpg as per your OTRS message, with the ticket pending and the licensing in order, so I hope it satisfies the copyright concerns. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 15:07, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

I had tough luck finding out the OTRS ticket for this image, but I got it now and have updated the image page accordingly. Thanks. --Sreejith K (talk) 15:24, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Arcelin

Hi, Could you please still check in the ticket 2011020410009352 if your ticket contact really wants the uploader name (Charles 48) in the paintings information as author an not the real name of the painter (Jean Arcelin)? -- Cecil (talk) 10:04, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

The copyright owner of the images as per OTRS email is Jean Arcelin and he says charles48 is his brother Charles Arcelin. Jean did not complain, but still its not a bad idea to change the author to Jean Arcelin. File:TENNIS DU PACIFIQUE.jpg, File:East wind.jpg, File:Athis.jpg, File:Route vaudoise.jpg, File:Bh.jpg and File:JeanArcelin.jpg are the images covered in the email and I will correct the author info for the images. Thank you for pointing it out. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:40, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

I have absolutely no Idea why this message says that Austal does not want to release the picture under a free license. As, I have written on the talk page, I received the email send to OTRS and me, confirms that they release it under CC-BY-SA 3.0. Can you explain? I have pointed out what we requier, and they agreed on that. --Rodejong (talk) 14:53, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Can you please check Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#File:Leonora_Christina_Launch.jpg and add a note there if you have any concerns? --Sreejith K (talk) 11:15, 20 February 2011 (UTC)

OTRS Matchstick

Hallo Sreejithk2000, you have added OTRS here. Was this from an official e-mail address? I am not quite totally sure about the photographs he uploaded. But I told him to only upload photos he own the copyrights. We will see. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:16, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

The OTRS email came from Allen D. Forrest, the CEO of M.Republik Music Group, LLC and was from the domain matchstik.net. The OTRS permission for this image looks good. --Sreejith K (talk) 09:28, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Turin.jpg pic

Dear user, I meant to change the file name of File:Turin.jpg because there is already another file somewhere in wikipedia with the SAME name, but that is a completely different picture, actually depicting a black and white view of the Turin's Torre Littoria: in this way, if you try to put the panorama of Turin in the Turin's page, you'll have the Torre Littoria pic. Why did you delete my request, saying "no valid reason"? For me is totally valid. PLEASE ANSWER ME. --Conte di Cavour (talk) 15:08, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Please see Commons:Rename#What_files_should_be_renamed?. The third point says that If a filename in a local project conflicts with a filename at Commons, the file in the local project should be renamed.. For this specific request, please put a rename request in the local Wikipedia project and not in commons. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:13, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Has the situation of this file received any update or can I delete it as npd? -- Cecil (talk) 13:41, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I haven't heard back from the photographer, but I have sent a reminder email after I saw your note. Can you give the photographer a weeks time to respond? --Sreejith K (talk) 13:45, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I got a reply back to my email that the photographer is not willing to release the image under a free license. You may please delete this image at your earliest. --Sreejith K (talk) 14:20, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi,to upload a PD image to commons the work should be PD in both source country and US . According to Uruguay_Round_Agreements_Act only PRE-1941 works (for India : photos before 1941 / author death before 1941) are PD in US. see w:Wikipedia:Non-U.S._copyrights#Dates_of_restoration_and_terms_of_protection Dpkpm007 (talk) 01:52, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I did not see anything on that page which says 70 years from death of author. As far as I know, it is 60 years in India and that applies for images from India in commons (COM:URAA#India). If you disagree, feel free to nominate the image for deletion. I have also asked the original uploader to check whether the book from where he scanned the image has the date of first publication. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:24, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

"Names of the authors are not permitted on images in Commons". Where did you get that idea? We have plenty of images of paintings signed by their author. Again, it's not a watermark, this is how the comic book cover is, removing their names would be misrepresenting the way the cover looks. I completely agree that watermark are a nuisance (I've removed a few myself), but this isn't a watermark. –Tryphon 09:38, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

I did not notice that it was a book cover when I reverted your edit. My apologies. To me, it still looks like the authors name was added later, but thats just a guess. So I am giving the benefit of the doubt to the uploader. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 03:57, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

OTRS query

Hello, it seems you confirmed the OTRS ticket for File:Thakur nigamananda.JPG. This image appears to be a painting or drawing derived from an old photograph, which must be from the early 20th century. Depending on its publication history, that original photograph may or may not be in the PD. There is no information who made the painting (apparently it's used as a devotional image by religious followers of the person in question). Are you sure the {self|cc-by-sa} claim is plausible? The same editor has also uploaded multiple historic photographs under the same alleged license. I have no objections if these are in fact PD, but self|cc appears quite dubious to me. Fut.Perf. 08:51, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Replied here -> Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tantra.jpg --Sreejith K (talk) 09:52, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, but that one is about a separate set of images. Those don't seem to be paintings. But in any case, what did he actually claim about File:Thakur nigamananda.JPG in his OTRS message? He can't possibly be the original photographer, and with or without OTRS confirmation the image still needs a decent source description. Fut.Perf. 10:23, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
My mistake. I should have written photographs instead of paintings. Got confused between these two . In his OTRS email, he just claimed the ownership of the photographs. I assumed good faith and believed that he was the owner of the paintings (although not the author) and did not check his upload history. This was a week OTRS ticket, I agree. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:53, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Image discription

Hi Sreejithk2000,

please note in future to add image discription like this. Thank you. Greetings. --Wladyslaw (talk) 08:56, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Please categorize

If you use commons helper to transfer files, can you please add categories? Furthermore please move only those images that are no copyvios or not completely useless. (Example: File:CSC202 Euclid Screencap.png -It looks like every other windows program.) Thank you. -- RE RILLKE Questions? 15:20, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

I am not able to recollect why I moved this file from wiki to commons. Anyways, I have categorized the image and marked it as {{Out of scope}}. This image could be used in an article about C# though. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:03, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
No it would not make sense using this image in an article about C#. C# is the language, not the framework. It does not show any of the typical .NET Framework features like the menu bar or a context menu. Therefore it is useless or has a useless description. There are a lot of other images, you should categorize. Thank you. --RE RILLKE Questions? 16:25, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
I am doing a lot of categorization these days and will try to fix the backlog, but I cannot promise anything. To say the least, I am making sure that all the images that I am transferring now are properly categorized. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:55, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Your work is appreciated. -- RE RILLKE Questions? 17:05, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

You tagged File:Transporting USCG Marine Protector cutters to Mediteranean ports.jpg with the edit summary “Tagging as duplicate of Image:US Navy 030318-N-9693M-002 Two cranes work in tandem from a barge to lower a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) patrol boat into the water.jpg”.

File renaming

Hi Sreejithk2000,

Please note that file renames should be done in accordance with File renaming. Please make sure that the reasons given for renames are mentioned there. The rename of File:Leipzig Engelsdorf Straßenbahn.jpg does not meet any of the criteria mentioned there. -- Docu at 10:38, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

The file renaming request said the new name is more specific and I thought it was genuine. Probably I should limit renaming to languages that I understand. Thanks for letting me know. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:26, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
"More specific" doesn't meet any criteria listed. -- Docu at 17:47, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
I agree. I will take care going forward. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:05, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Categories

Hi Sreejithk2000, when you add an appropriate category, like you did when you added Category:K. J. Yesudas to File:Kj yesudas.jpg, then please remove all the categories already included in Category:K. J. Yesudas, otherwise the image will be listed in redundant categories. Thanks Hekerui (talk) 23:06, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Will take care of this next time onwards. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:56, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi, agreed, the redirect was a bit cludgy. What is the best way given that there is already a en:wiki file called File:Moment.jpg, and an article uses File:Moments.jpg which should be deleted as a dup of our File:Moment.jpg ?. Thanks --Tony Wills (talk) 10:26, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

The rule says that if we have a different file in a regional wiki with the same name as in Commons, we should rename the file in regional wiki and not in commons. As per this, I have added rename template in English wiki image. This should resolve the issue. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:34, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
In retrospect it probably would have been cleaner and simpler to delete the other copy as the duplicate (ie delete our File:Moment.jpg) and leave File:Moments.jpg. Now all the en:wiki links to their File:Moment.jpg need to be updated, and then any wiki links to our File:Moments.jpg will have to be updated. :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 01:49, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Makes sense. But I was thinking that the correct en wiki article is Moment (physics) and Moment.jpg would be more appropriate. The image has still not been deleted and so an admin can decide otherwise as well. But not a big deal anyways, both the images are used only in one en wiki location and Commons delinker will sure not complain --Sreejith K (talk) 04:38, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Just checked en wiki image and I see that it has already been renamed. So no further issues on this one, I guess. --Sreejith K (talk) 04:43, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm not sure which automatic script you're using to transfer images, but I'd request if it could list dates in international format: [2]. Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) 21:31, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

File:Alexandria City Hall IMG 1122.JPG

Hello. Are you the photographer of File:Alexandria City Hall IMG 1122.JPG, or is Billy Hawthorn, or are you both the same person? Please clarify promptly on the image description. Thank you. -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:00, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

The same with File:Alexandria, LA, art museum IMG 1136.JPG. -- Infrogmation (talk) 18:03, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done - It happened because of the bot move. The user had given four tildes on the page and it got replaced by my name. Thanks for notifying. --Sreejith K (talk) 18:06, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I just figured out what happened with the 4 tildes from the original uploader being turned into your sig myself. Thanks for your attention. Cheers, Infrogmation (talk) 18:20, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

The script you're using for transfer

Can I recommend use of the API? You're coming up with some odd errors elsewise, e.g., transferring over HTML code [3]. Magog the Ogre (talk) 23:44, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

You might want to be careful about transferring over uncritical wikimarkup too: you transcluded your signature [4]. Magog the Ogre (talk) 23:51, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

I am using Wikimedia api to create the information template and associated description. The errors that you pointed out are something I am aware of and wishes to fix. I am currently dumping the output of the api to the page which is what you see here. I will see how can I make the script better. I am sorry, if this script is causing you trouble. --Sreejith K (talk) 06:00, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Not causing me much trouble; trying to help troubleshoot. I also thought you might like to get attribution on your own for the file transfers, rather than attributing it to the name of the en.wp uploader, but on commons [5]. Magog the Ogre (talk) 11:28, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree. This was a recent mistake I made with the script and I have corrected this. Thanks for pointing this out. --Sreejith K (talk) 11:45, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

I also note two other things that are causing problems: 1) you're parsing the links in the upload summary, so you're adding wikilanguage inside a nowiki tag [6], which is bad. You're also not copying the description from the page, but from the original upload summary [7], which is a) erasing any description added after upload, and b) sometimes transcluding the ~~~~ as your signature, not the original person's. Magog the Ogre (talk) 15:01, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

I have fixed the first point in the script i.e. not to append the language code in the upload summary. But the second one seems a little tough. Taking the first history through api is easy, but parsing the current version of the page requires a lot of intelligence to be added to the script. I am not saying that I will not do it, but this will take time unfortunately. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:29, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Permission for images

Can you confirm the permission for my image File:Maria Canals Barrera 2010.jpg. Thank you very much--Hoangquan hientrang (talk) 08:53, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, could you please issue an OTRS ticket for this vid. I got the permission with so much difficulty, and want the ticket issued ASAP. Thanks. I shall not bother you again with such requests. Joyson Noel Holla at me 09:43, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh, don't bother. Ticket has been issued. Thanks anyway. :-) Joyson Noel Holla at me 17:28, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

OTRS permission

Could you please confirm the permission for files File:Maiara Walsh 2010.jpg--Hoangquan hientrang (talk) 09:03, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Isn't it OK to get the permission from FlickrMail? I had already told the author to change the license on the image page--Hoangquan hientrang (talk) 07:32, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Could you let me know what the Malayalam caption means for this image? Thanks, —innotata 23:01, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

The translation you have given, viz. A female House Sparrow feeding a fledgeling is the correct translation for the file name and the description given. Infact, the file name does not even say its a sparrow, it just says a bird. --Sreejith K (talk) 16:49, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

PD-IndiaGov

Hi Sreejithk2000, PD-IndiaGov seems to be equivalent to speedy-deletion[8]. --Túrelio (talk) 06:52, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

I know. I think this image is a copyright violation because in India, money is not in public domain. I am a little skeptical about File:പല്ലിമുട്ടകൾ.JPG though, since there is a little amount of creativity in here and might as well qualify to be an art. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:02, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Then, may be, a regular DR would be a better solution for the "coin with ears". --Túrelio (talk) 07:06, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Nominated File:India_20_paise_1988_back.jpg for deletion. This seems to be straight case of copyvio depending on Indian copyright rules. I gotta tell you, I am not knowledgeable enough about this rule. --Sreejith K (talk) 07:14, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Deletion

Hi, yes both the images can be deleted. I had a misconception that all the images at "Filmi Tadka" are attributed to the mentioned license. I uploaded that image since I saw quite a few images of Indian actors which were taken from that site. And Maniratnam's image, also has to be deleted. It was uploaded a year ago and again I had a misconception that it's my own work because I edited that using a photo-editing software. We have an image of him taken from "bollywoodhungama". --Vensatry (talk) 07:23, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Also can you check all the images of Tamil film actors. I think many images which claim "Own work" must be copy-vios. --Vensatry (talk) 07:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
What about this one. --Vensatry (talk) 07:29, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Nominated this image as copy-vio since I saw the same image in http://www.extramirchi.com/. I have seen that you have nominated a lot of images as possible copy-vios. Many of them are infact copy-vios but you did not submit any proof. I would recommend you using http://www.tineye.com/ or http://images.google.com and find the same image published outside and then nominate it as copy-vio. If we cannot find a proof outside, I think its best to assume good faith on the uploader. This is just my view, many here would disagree. --Sreejith K (talk) 08:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

FYI: Commons:Deletion requests/File:E.Aboobacker.JPG--Praveen:talk 02:15, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Didn't you use the ajax js to nominate the image? I am surprised that I did not get notification. I have notified the user's ml wiki talk page. But seeing his upload history so far, I am not that optimistic. --Sreejith K (talk) 03:07, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I have used ajax link (from sidebar), But it didn't happen.--Praveen:talk 07:33, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

History splitting

Hi Sreejith K, just to confirm the history splitting of File:J. Jayalalithaa.jpg and File:J. Jayalalithaa (cropped).jpg, which version do you wish to move to the new file name? The first upload of the file or the second upload? Regards-- Ben.MQ (talk) 12:28, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

The first upload is a recent file while the current one is an old photo. So lets keep the first one with the current name and move the one uploaded on top of it with a suffix old. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:21, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Copying text without attribution

Hi. 1) You copied text from en.wikipedia.org without proper attribution to the source after creating categories, examples: Category:Innocent (actor) and Category:Jayasurya. Remember that you can reuse text but it has to be properly attributed to the source per the official license. 2) I don't believe copying the text is necessary at all, there are links to Wikipedia pages on the Commons pages and you only duplicate content available elsewhere - a very short explanation is useful, but not a whole paragraph taken from Wikipedia. Best regards Hekerui (talk) 19:31, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

I am using the tool Sum-it-up available in the gadgets to get a brief description. In most cases, the tool only gives a very short description and I believe that this helps commons users to identify the subject/object of the category. I strongly feel that this would be a good thing to have, but since I see a difference of opinion here, may be I should stop myself. Thanks for the note. --Sreejith K (talk) 19:34, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

My rename

I've thinked it was a mistake of the uploader... an error of mine. Feel free to ask for a revert or revert it. --Dэя-Бøяg 13:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

It probably is a mistake by uploader. But still not a valid reason to rename the file. Its ok, now that you have renamed it; but it will be better, if you could consider the renaming guidelines in future. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:25, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Is what I do normally... But oversights or technical errors happens :-) Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 14:54, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Welcome, Dear Patroller !

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Sreejithk2000 !

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller ! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use you help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. Ben.MQ (talk) 13:30, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the renaming! Perditax (talk) 09:34, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

American Gothic

Who is the OTRS ticket on File:Grant DeVolson Wood - American Gothic.jpg from? I assume it verifies that the copyright was not renewed - is that correct? I'm skeptical, because many books (this one, for example) indicate that it is copyrighted or that the copyright status is unclear. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:28, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

This is the quote from OTRS email.
It is our understanding that American Gothic was first published in an exhibition catalogue in 1930. Even though 95 years have not yet passed from the date of first publication, it is our understanding that the copyright owner failed to timely "renew" and extend the copyright term after the first 28 years of copyright protection, which used to be required under United States copyright law. Therefore, we believe that the work is now in the public domain in the United States, free of copyright protection.

OTRS permission

Hi! Could you please have a look at my comment in Commons:Deletion requests/Files of User:RockStar50? Thank you. --MGA73 (talk) 10:12, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

New mail for you in this case :-) --MGA73 (talk) 21:22, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello, i'm sorry, but i still consider that a further informations should be provided than just just the "own work" statement in the upload, because those claims from this user can't be trusted. All his deleted copyvios were "own work" claims. The image is also in a reduced size, without exif data. --Lilyu (talk) 19:47, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Then I think you should be using {{Copyvio}} template instead. Even if the uploader's claim of {{Own}} work is a lie, the page does have all permissions that commons require. --Sreejith K (talk) 21:15, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
I would have tagged it copyvio if i had found the source. What i want to ask is that uploader contact an OTRS volunteer that speaks his language and provide further authorization and informations that can be recorded and verified by the OTRS system. Because the default "own work" statement is insufficient in his case, because of his behavior. What is the correct template for that ? {{Nsd}} ? --Lilyu (talk) 23:12, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Frankly, I do not know. The image looks good and is very useful. So rather than putting a copyvio or nsd, may be a regular DR could be better. In the DR page, uploader can affirm that he is the original owner and if possible upload a higher resolution. Given the uploaders history so far, I fear nothing is going to help. I wonder whether he has even seen the {{Npd}}tag put in place. --Sreejith K (talk) 09:33, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, too. -- RE rillke questions? 18:41, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Small question

Hello,
Do, per chance, remember why you added category Eupatorium to File:Ayapanatriplinervis.jpg that is supposed to be a Ayapana triplinervis ?
Best regards Liné1 (talk) 10:41, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

It looks like we still do not have Category:Ayapana triplinervis or even Category:Ayapana. So may be I took the best bet which was Category:Eupatorium. You are right, the images should have gone to the correct category and that needs to be created. I am not good with identifying plants, btw. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:56, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Script transfer, continued

How odd is it that you and I had this conversation three months ago, and I remember none of it (save a vague recollection that it occurred)? I must be hair-brained.

Anyway, if I could again reiterate that it would be best to pull up the current version of the page. Many many of your transfers are missing important information on the current version of the page that wasn't present immediately, or that was present but isn't available due to a truncated upload summary. I cannot imagine the coding would be terribly difficult - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&titles=File:<insert filename here>&prop=revisions&rvprop=content (example), but I would be glad to fix it for you, if only because it will save me a considerable amount of time as well.

Cheers. Magog the Ogre (talk) 08:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

I also see the bot is still uncritically copying wikimarkup without regard to its new appearance on commons: notably the signature: [9] [10]. The signature issue would be fixed by my solution above; other wikimarkup might not. Magog the Ogre (talk) 09:06, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
I totally understand. This was something I started doing sometime back and its still half way. The problem is that if I get the current version via api, I need to break it down and make a new information template and I have not been able to finish that part so far since there is no consistency in the way it is in regional Wikipedias. But this is something I definitely have in my head and will be trying to complete. --Sreejith K (talk) 09:10, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Also, a good way to tell if the file is relicensed under GFDL is if the current version of the page has the en:Template:Cc-by-sa-3.0-migrated transcluded, or if instead en:Template:License migration not eligible is transcluded.
I know your'e trying hard to work to fix these things, which is great, however, it either creates work for the rest of us, or it leaves important information out until there is a fix. Again, if you want me to look at your code, I've already written a lot of code for commons regarding transfers. Magog the Ogre (talk) 09:16, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
My code is in no good shape to share, so I will share it once it is presentable. Now I have started working on getting the latest, but still there is a lot of work to do. In the interim, you might see even worse file uploads and I apologize in advance. But I will keep on trying for betterment. --Sreejith K (talk) 10:20, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

{{Original caption}} template in source of {{Information}} of new uploads not working

The original caption template in uploads is appearing as Original caption: “{{{1}}}”...this should be fixed. See File:OWB-bookmarks.png for example.Smallman12q (talk) 13:56, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Looks like {{Original caption}} will not display the text if it has a '=' sign inside it. I replaced it with the HTML code equivalent (=) and it solved it. --Sreejith K (talk) 17:44, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks Sreejith ... for fix the counter. I am trying get the same counter in WikiOutreach page. Can you please help me in that Wiki Outreach --Naveenpf (talk) 02:39, 24 August 2011 (UTC) null

The outreach page is in meta while the category is in Commons. Both are different projects, so the counter used in Commons to count commons category files will not work there. We might have to use apis (Example). I will try to think of something --Sreejith K (talk) 04:55, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Help needed

Hi can you upload an image of Karthi. The article is in need of a free image. --Vensatry (talk) 14:25, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

It does not seem that free images of this actor is available. I will do a detailed search and see, but I cannot promise anything. --Sreejith K (talk) 13:33, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
I see a lot of images of Malayalam actors uploaded by ml wikipedians which were taken at various functions. They have also uploaded the images of a few Tamil actors like Suriya. It would be nice if you help us by contacting them and do the needful. --Vensatry (talk) 08:43, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
We have a Wikipedian named Anees Kodiyathur who has covered a lot of functions organized by Association of Malayalam Movie Artists as an official photographer, but unfortunately, this user has not photographed Tamil actors unless they have physically attended a function in Kerala. I will check with him whether he has any pictures. Fotokannan is another Wikipedia user who is also a professional photographer. I will be contacting him also. --Sreejith K (talk) 09:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
