Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Thanks for all the photos added to WLM-US
[edit]I particularly like File:Beautiful Fields.JPG. Keep 'em coming in!
There are always copyright concerns here - everybody is afraid of getting sued and then having to close down the whole site. And copyright is a hugely complicated area of law. Somebody asked me to point out that File:Alby Gallatin.JPG has a copyrighted statue in it and thus can't be uploaded (without some very difficult to get permissions) and thus will likely be deleted. Who knew! I'd avoid uploading pix of statues for the time being, although I love public art (See my user page).
There are some fairly complicated rules about public art at Commons:Public art and copyrights in the US and I'd love to help you get going in this area, but may not be easily available until after the contest is over.
Thanks again.
All the best,

The button should work now. Smallbones (talk) 15:29, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
