User talk:Polly
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit]The image Image:Tito Larriva 2007.jpg is not a copyvio. It was uplaoded by the photog. I'm working with him to clean-up the image. Evrik 13:54, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- OK but they really need to change the license on the flickr page to a free one. Polly 16:12, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Umm, no. The pictures were posted to wikipedia under the free license. Evrik 20:24, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- But then you have conflicting licenses and the Flickr license precedes the Wikipedia one. Polly 21:39, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Could you please document where it says that in the commons policies? Thanks. Evrik 14:51, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- No idea, but how do you know the en.Wikipedia uploader is the Flickr uploader? the en. uploader might just have taken the Flickr image and uploaded it as their own. Now if they can change the licensing on the Flickr page that would prove both uploaders are the same person. It may not be Commons policy but it is common sense. Polly 20:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

- Well, you could ask the en user ... I did. I know from correspondence that they are the same. However, if you can't quote a policy, I don't know why we're debating it ... Evrik 19:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see how correspondence can prove they are the same but them changing the Flickr licensing would do so. So I wonder why they won't or maybe can't change the licensing. Polly 14:00, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Next time...
[edit]Next time you come across a problem uploader with a ton of copyvios of that kind, will you please be so kind as to fold them into a mass deletion request for us? It makes closing the DRs much simpler. Not a criticism, just a suggestion that'd make my life easier. Thx. :D Lewis Collard! (hai thar, wut u doin) 08:49, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
File:George Strait on stage.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
