User talk:Pil56
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Duesentrieb 15:56, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
You claim that this trademark has been released into the public domain. I find this hard to believe but do you have any sources for this claim? Regards, Thuresson 20:24, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Please add a source for this image, and a reason why you belive that it is in the public domain. License claims should always be accompanied by information that allows others to verify those claims. -- Duesentrieb 22:51, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Several other images you uploaded have the same problem - you claim them to PD without giving any more info. And Image:LogoPininfarina.gif is very likely copyrighted, no?
You also copied some images from wikipedias. Please remember a few things when copying images from a wikipedia:
- allways copy the full resolution image
- always copy all information provided with the image, including the uploader
- Always name the author, especially if the license requires it (like the GFDL, all CC licenses, etc)
- Note that local images may be deleted after the image was copied to the commons. If the info about the image is incomplete, it may be lost.
Please fix the license info! -- Duesentrieb 23:04, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Please add info that is relevant to the license to the description page, not the talk page - it may well be overlooked there, and the author and source should be associated with the license tag. See Image:Ferrari308gtb.jpg, I have currected everything there (it's the only picture I could find all info for). Oh, und dein Deutsch ist doch schon ganz gut :) -- Duesentrieb 23:50, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Logoautobianchi.gif has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

BMW building
[edit]Please, when you upload photos from Wikipedias, remember to upload the full image, not a thumbnail or a reduced version. I have replaced Image:800px-BMW building munich.jpg with a full version, Image:BMW building munich.jpg. Thuresson 8 July 2005 10:02 (UTC)
Please add your images to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Automobiles.

Please copy all information about original uploader and date of upload when you move image from other Wiki. In this image you claimed authorship for other person creation by omitting this information. --EugeneZelenko 02:11, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Copying image from other wikipedias
[edit]- Please always copy the image description text and not only link to the source page !
- Please always add the NowCommons templates to the images moved !
- Please always add your images to proper categories or articles so other users are able to find and use them !
By not doing this you create lots of work to be done by local wikipedia and Commons Admins. --Denniss 20:07, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- I agree with Denniss, especially Please always copy the image description text and not only link to the source page ! Copy too the Article History and a Link to the User at de (thats necessary for images at de.wikipedia). Thanks, ElRaki 06:44, 21 December 2005 (UTC)
If you will continue to upload files without sources you will be blocked. I expect from you to go through your contribs and add these informations, especially things like "from en" must be changed at least to "from en uploaded there by <link to username>". Beside images get deleted in many Wikipedias and in future propably in EN Wikipedia too. --Saperaud 05:40, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
Again, please add a source for this image, and a reason why you belive that it is in the public domain; otherwise it may be deleted. Pibwl 19:03, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:RustySchweickart.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:RustySchweickart.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use to release it under the Creative Commons or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. |

Image resolution
[edit]Dear Sir,
I am currently researching possible images for use in a book, entitled 'Energise', which we are plannng on publishing in the near future. I wanted to include the picture of Thorstein Veblen, which you have uploaded onto wikipedia, but I was wondering if you could help me in finding or accessing a version of the image at much higher resolution. We are really looking for a minimum of 2MB, ideally 4MB so that the image is of clear enough quality to be printed in the book.
Your help and advice would be much appreciated
Many thanks

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:02, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Please help replace this outdated license
[edit]Hello!
Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.
The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.
Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

Please give images good descriptions
[edit]
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing!

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Tagging copyvios
[edit]Hi, When tagging copyright violations, please inform the uploader. This is best done using the gagdet. See in your preferences to enable them, tab "Gadget", section "Maintenance tools" : "AjaxQuickDelete" and "Quick delete". These add links in the left column (or right column for Hebrew, Arabic, etc., language interface). Regards, Yann (talk) 11:46, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
