Hi Ronhjones, Thanks for protecting Photographer's Photos on Wikipedia from Copyright Violations - it's a lot of hard work, but much appreciated! Regarding File:Ella Silver Pet of the Month Nov 2018 - by Glenn Francis.jpg, That is my photo and I did license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. Once I contribute a photo to Wikipedia/Commons, it's typical that they get copied and used frequently, as you discovered. Yes, I know that the people who use them seldom credit me as a condition of usage, but that's just the way things go. Thanks again for your devoted work on Wikipedia and please cancel your request for deletion. Toglenn (talk) 04:08, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

@Toglenn: Someone already removed it. I fixed your template on the page - missing some curly brackets. Could I offer to modify that page (User:Toglenn/Credits) to show the OTRS ticket number you had in 2008 for Image:Louise_Griffiths_2008.jpg, and I'll annotate the ticket at OTRS to show your images with the template are approved. We do this for quite a few people like yourself. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

I took the image of "Changan" from the article "Changan de wikipedia"

Hi, I do not know what is the problem with the image? The image is from another article of wikipedia, and wikipedia is an encyclopedia of free knowledge, in that case the image should be removed from the other section as well, and also the image is according to the logo of the company, which helps people to know that they are in the right article with the help of the image. can you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by GabrieldeChile (talk • contribs) 00:13, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

@GabrieldeChile: Image page is here - en:File:Changan_logo_2.png - it's a copyrighted image used under the US fair use policy (there are over 600,000 such images on en-wiki). Non free images cannot be uploaded to commons, the must be uploaded to the local Wikipedia IF that Wikipedia supports non free usage - see m:NFC for wikis that allow it.
Note:I suspect you want it for es-wiki, I can't see that in the list, but there is es:Wikipedia:Sobre_el_uso_legítimo which might explain why it's not in the list. Ronhjones  (Talk) 01:29, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Dear Ron,

Have you read this discussion on the Admin list? Apparently you forgot to do something according to Alexis Jazz....which explains why I can't review an image. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:45, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

@Leoboudv: Why two unlinked lists...! I think I've done it all now. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:40, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Thank You Ron. You have indeed fixed the problem as I managed to license review the image. Thanks for your kind help from Metro Vancouver, Canada. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:43, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

Family heritage photo of Wilhelm Cauer

Hi Ronhjones, please help me to upload the image of my grandfather Wilhelm Cauer so it will not be deleted right afterwards. I guess that the first upload had an odd copyright and the second upload seems to be deleted because the picture was the same as the first. Rudolfpolzer (talk) 07:17, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

I made an undeletion request for the first picture, File:Cauer Wilhelm 1900-1945 1935-06-00.jpg, but it was ignored. Rudolfpolzer (talk) 07:20, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

@Rudolfpolzer: The issue if stated at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Cauer Wilhelm 1900-1945 1935-06-00.jpg - we need to know who the photographer was. Owning a photo, does not give you the copyright - it will always stay with the photographer (unless there is a written transfer of copyright) until 70 years after (s)he dies. It looks like a typical studio shot, so I don't see any way of resolving the issue - short of waiting until 1st Jan 2056, where we are allowed to assume the copyright has expired. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:34, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

I need your help, because I added a new previously unpublished photo of my grandfather, taken by his father, who died in 1940 (and I am his heir so I own the copyright of this picture). But probably I entered something wrong, and the new picture is marked for deletion. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wilhelm_Cauer_1930-09-04.jpg Rudolfpolzer (talk) 11:43, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

@Rudolfpolzer: You originally did not add a license - so the auto system tagged it. Someone has tidied it up already. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:48, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Wiko

Hil. I've seen an OTRS ticket regarding this file. Why do not qualifies as PD-textlogo? Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 18:17, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

@Ganímedes: It might be textlogo - that would depend on the country of origin (not specified, so how can one check the COM:TOO level), and current Emokiw is claiming they are the copyright holder of a company logo, obviously wrong. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:44, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
That's fixing simply asking to replace "own work" with the proper name of the owner or a link I guess... --Ganímedes (talk) 21:34, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
@Ganímedes: So long as the COM:TOO for the country of origin is OK, if it was my country (UK), I would not be sure - bit too much artistic change to the letters in my opinion. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:21, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Fonts are fonts... DR is needed if so many doubts, even when I think the problem it's long more easy to solved. OTRS it's collapsing; a little bit help could be usefull. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 23:16, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
I see you continue tagging different versions of the file, even when the company is french and no CR can be set over fonts. I'm telling the user to change license to PD-textlogo and cite right source, while we wating for the DR, since it's not clear at all to me that this file should be deleted. Clearly no TOO problem here. Regards. --Ganímedes (talk) 23:48, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
I don't think I've tagged a wiko since your first message... Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:17, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello Ronhjones, is it possible to restore this file? I did some research (Dutch Wikipedia 'copyright help center') after the earlier version was deleted and it appears copyvio isn't the case. The author wrote it in his public function as Dutch Chief of Defence; for that reason is it free of rights.

Greetings, Encycloon (talk) 23:58, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

@Encycloon: One should ask for restore of the original version, and not the re-upload out of process, so that the deleting admin and the original tagging editor can comment. COM:UDR would therefore be best or contact the deleting admin - I can give some history for you
  1. File name is File:Brief Bevelhebber Nederlandse Strijdkrachten.jpg
  2. Image source was quoted as "Prins Bernhard of the Netherlands"
  3. Deletion rationale by the deleting admin (Túrelio) was "Author died in 2004, which is not 70 years ago yet"
Hope that helps Ronhjones  (Talk) 02:06, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

This discussion as Encycloon already stated has been discussed, and after discussion admitted, I can not understand any policy of direct removing without consulting the one who uploaded the file, this is a tiring non discussing specifically aimed at the United States, with all their legal and copyrights. I fully agree with Encycloon. This file is a written document made by the Dutch Government in 1945. Mschapink (talk) 07:54, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

EngineerLogo.png

Hello @Ronhjones: , I hope you fine I have uploaded this photo file:EngineerLogo.png on commons and you have marked it as "missing permission", I have updated the link that shows the license, it's a free creation website, I hope you revise this photo again. thanks --Mohanad Kh (talk) 14:39, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

@Mohanad Kh: Free to make, not free to re-use. Check https://www.designevo.com/pricing.html - you don't own the copyright unless you buy the expensive package. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:51, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Problemi con l'immagine: File:Logo progetto ArCA Macerata.png

Good evening, I proceeded to load a better version of the logo and to insert the license. Can it be okay? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Logo_Associazione_Arca_Macerata.jpg --Tommasopaiano (talk) 17:42, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

@Tommasopaiano: It needed a link to the source object and a link to the legal page that shows the license - fixed that for you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:02, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

File:Svenska Akademiens språklära.jpg

Hi. Thank you for noticing possible copyright violation. I took this picture at home from a borrowed book from the local public library. If this is not legal the picture should be removed. I guess you know better than me about this situation. I use this occasion to ask you in general terms if it is not permitted to take a picture of a book and use it in Wikipedia. In fact I only thought that it is not allowed to use pictures that belong to other people or institutions. Please let me know what are the rules for this kind of situation. Thank you again. HCa

@HCa: Any photo of a copyrighted work retains the original copyright. Book covers are copyright to the publishing house. Had it not been for the logo on the books, one might have got away with {{PD-textlogo}} - for texts and very simple shapes. If the books were very old then it could be PD, but these are way too new. Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:34, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Hi Ronhjones! I took away the picture from the article. But the picture itself is still in Commons. How can I take it away completelly? HCa (talk) 10:05, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
@HCa: You have to ask for deletion - done. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:51, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

File:Mike Parson official photo.jpg

Hi Ron, I uploaded the file above and have made contact with the communications department and they have sent in permission for this file. Would you be willing (if you’re an OTRS person) check on the email. She cc’d me in the email so so can forward the one the rep sent to permissions. Thanks, Corky 01:57, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

@Corkythehornetfan: Image already annotated. As they used the full correct url, the KrdBot applies the OTRS received banner. It would have been easier to change the license on Flickr though - see User:Ronhjones/PDMreply... Ronhjones  (Talk) 04:46, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Oh, gotcha.. wasn’t sure how that works! I would agree with you now that’s i think about it, I may even make that suggestion to her.. thanks, Corky 02:51, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for noticing possible copyright violation. But this file is derived from file:Minidisc.jpeg with minor color difference. Minidisc image are again licensed under GFDL. This is stated in the filedesc. If this is not the problem, please elaborate. Regards Premeditated (talk) 17:17, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

@Premeditated: It says it comes from https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/1041801975291990016 - which does not have a compatible license. The original disc may be free, but if someone has added some artistic work, then the derivative might not be free. If you did the colour changing then the source is file:Minidisc.jpeg and not twitter. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:22, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
The main difference between the images is a simple "remix", where the label is purple. So I will update the file with file:Minidisc.jpeg as source. - Premeditated (talk) 19:00, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Hallo, please restore the https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard?uselang=cs&wpDestFile=Kantoři_v_současném_složení_(2019).jpg file you deleted. It's all about my own work - I'm the author of the photo and of all the posters. These facts have been well documented when inserting the image. JiH — Preceding unsigned comment added by JiH (talk • contribs) 17:52, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Such posters have to be properly validated by the OTRS team - see COM:OTRS Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:36, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello, this file is under public domain because of author choise, why you want to delete it ? License is here : [1], what can I put at the place of PD ? --81.220.128.234 17:36, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

@81.220.128.234: No it's not. The flickr owner has used the wrong selection. A Public Domain Mark is for images that are already in the PD - like very old. See User:Ronhjones/PDMreply. The Flickr user must change the selection - it will take them a few seconds. Ronhjones  (Talk) 17:43, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
I have pubish a lot of images as PD, my own, as PD, no one says to me this was a problem. Why this file is a problem for you ? I don't know the author, but its intention is clear : is a public domain photo, so anyone can use it. Idea that "author probably made a mistake with licence" is only your opinion, licence status of photo is a fact.--Pạtạfisik 17:57, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
@Patafisik: There is a proper "PD donation" option on Flickr - it's called "Public Domain Dedication (CC0)". It has not been used. It was previously agreed not to accept PDM on it's own - see COM:PDM Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:33, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
Hello Ronhjones, I asked to the user to change his licence, and he did. See [2] for details. Pạtạfisik 21:18, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
@Patafisik: All fixed. Most Flickr users are usually happy to change once explained. I don't think Flickr has done a very good job here. Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:36, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
I've been surprised by the author collaboration, but it's a pretty surprise. About Flickr, yes, I think so. I hope Flickr will fix this licence in the future. Have a nice day 81.220.128.234 08:23, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

I am new here. Don't know about the license matter for any uploaded images. I have uploaded a logo for Star Suvarna page, but don't know why the logo will be deleted shortly. If possible, please upload a correct logo on that page. It will be helpful for Wikipedia users. Thank you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Suvarna Uzzzzz (talk) 08:11, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

@Uzzzzz: Once you have made 10 edits and account is 4 days old you can upload at en-wiki and use fair use. Use en:File:FastMail Logo with wordmark.png as a good model for how they are set up. OR request at en:Wikipedia:Files for upload Ronhjones  (Talk) 12:42, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Can you upload a proper logo for that page please? Uzzzzz (talk) 14:45, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
