Hi Everyone,

 

I am currently struggling with Save as PDF function which cannot display image. Some suggest to use ghostscript which I did, but since it has licenses issue it wouldn't be possible to use as a work around. I did a lot of research and workaround, still didn't make it to work. So now, I'm wondering if it is possible to incorporate Crystal Report in Powerbuilder since it can produce PDF format too. Please guide me and give me some idea if it is possible or not. If yes, please let me know the things I need to successfully incorporate crystal report. Any help would be so much appreciated. Thank you!

Though technically it's possible, I would not recomend going through the trouble of creating a C# Crystal Report for Visual Studio solution, just to export to PDF. You'd have to "wrap" the solution and then of course also create installers for the C#.

We've been using Crystal reports since like forever and then the activex viewer got outdated. It cost us (me) a lot of work, to create a viewer activex in C# that we use in our applications. Believe me there's better options than Crystal reports.

1. there can only be one version of CReports runtime installed on your system. If another company that works with your clients comes with an app that uses a different version for their CReports apps, yours will stop working.

2. Support from SAP for "Crystal Reports for Visual Studio" is like non-existent.

Hi Avory;

 Personally, instead of all that headache and recoding - I would personally suggest that you think about updating to Appeon PB that now includes a "Native" (built-in) PDF generation feature and a new PDF Builder feature for manipulating those PDF files.

Or you can just pay money and avoid that open-source restriction, but I heard their licensing is expensive: https://www.ghostscript.com/licensing/index.html#commercial

For so many reasons you should upgrade to latest version of PowerBuilder and leverage the new features, like the NativePDF.

My company just requires the customer install Ghostscript. That eliminates the open-source or licensed requirement. Our app version coming out soon will be using the built in NativePDF feature.
