The Govern Application represents more than just technological innovation. It embodies our commitment to addressing SDG 16 by fostering transparency, accountability and inclusivity within communities.

Inspiration

The idea for the GOVERN app came from noticing a gap between community members and local authorities. We wanted to create a platform that makes communication transparent, encourages inclusive decision-making, and builds stronger relationships between residents and community leaders. Our goal is to help build neighbourhoods where everyone's voice matters.

What it does

The GOVERN app is a platform for community engagement and empowerment. It offers:

  1. Community Leader Interaction: Residents can connect with community leaders, schedule meetings, and participate in decision-making.
  2. Business Development and Networking: Provides resources for business growth, networking events, and a directory of local businesses.
  3. Health and Safety Service Integration: Access to healthcare services, safety resources, and emergency contacts, including a clinic booking system.
  4. Educational Resources: A variety of educational materials and resources, organised by category.
  5. Real-time Chat: Allows real-time communication between community members and leaders.

How we built it

We used the following technology stack:

  • Front-end: React Native for mobile development, working on both Android and iOS devices.
  • Back-end: Node.js with Express for the server-side.
  • Database: MySQL for reliable data storage.
  • APIs: Integrated a clinic booking system API for healthcare appointments.

What's next for Govern App

Our future plans include:

  • More Localised Services: Adding more local services and improving the user experience with AI-driven personalisation.
  • Video Conferencing: Enhancing community leader interaction with video conferencing capabilities.
  • Partnerships: Partnering with local businesses and institutions to provide exclusive resources and opportunities.
