From dialectal gjidhë, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *semdza, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *sem-ǵʰo- (compare Armenian ez, Latin singulus), from *sem- (which gave dialectal gji).
