Compound of industri (industry) +‎ semester (vaccation; holiday). According to SO attested since 1950.

Usage notes

In Sweden this has traditionally most often occurred during the month of July, and later including August. It is less prevailing today, due to new production methods and globalization requiring companies to keep their operations running all year round.
