Introduction
This template is used to format the definition line of Italian combined forms, such as venderlo (“to sell it”) and dimmela (“tell me (it)”). This template uses Module:it-form of as the back end.
Usage
The full usage is as follows (e.g. for dimmela (“tell me (it)”)):
# {{it-compound of|dì|me|la|pos=imp2s|inf=dire}}
which produces
- compound of dì, the second-person singular (tu) imperative form of dire, with me (the conjunctive variant of mi) and la
Here:
- The first numbered parameter is the base form of the verb, minus any pronominal suffixes.
- Any further numbered parameters are pronominal suffixes.
|pos=
specifies the part of speech of the base verb form.|inf=
specifies the infinitive form of the base verb form.
However, some or all of the parameters can be omitted in many cases.
In the common case where the base verb form is the same as the combined form minus the pronominal suffixes, the base verb form can be omitted. For example (for ridatemela (“give (plural) it back to me”)):
# {{it-compound of|me|la|pos=imp2p|inf=ridare}}
which produces
- compound of ridate, the second-person plural (voi) imperative form of ridare, with me (the conjunctive variant of mi) and la
If there is only one pronominal suffix, it too can be omitted (e.g. for richiamami (“call me back”)):
# {{it-compound of|me|la|pos=imp2p|inf=ridare}}
which produces
- compound of richiama, the second-person singular (tu) imperative form of richiamare, with mi
If the part of speech is the infinitive, the |inf=
parameter can be omitted and will be taken from the base verb form (e.g. for mettersela (“to put it on oneself (e.g. a seatbelt)”)):
# {{it-compound of|mettersi|la|pos=inf}}
which produces
Note that this also applies to first and second-person reflexive infinitives, e.g. for abituarmici (“(for me) to get used to it”):
# {{it-compound of|abituarmi|ci|pos=inf1p}}
which produces
- compound of abituarmi, the first-person singular (io) infinitive of abituarsi, with ci
In the common case of non-reflexive infinitives, in fact, both the |inf=
and |pos=
parameters can be omitted (as well as all other parameters if there is only one pronominal suffix); e.g. for venderlo (“to sell it”):
# {{it-compound of}}
which produces
- compound of dà, the second-person singular (tu) imperative form of dare, with me (the conjunctive variant of mi) and la
Archaic forms
If the part of speech specifies a participle or finite indicative verb form, the archaic label is automatically added, e.g. for andovvi (“he went there”):
# {{it-compound of|andò|vi|pos=phis3s|inf=andare}}
which produces
- (archaic) compound of andò, the third-person singular (lui, lei) past historic form of andare, with vi
To suppress this, use |noarchaic=1
, as for looking for, wanted:
# {{it-compound of|pos=pres3s|inf=cercare|t=[[looking for]]; [[wanted]] {{q|sign or announcement}}|noarchaic=1}}
which produces
- compound of cerca, the third-person singular (lui, lei) present indicative form of cercare, with si (“looking for; wanted (sign or announcement)”)
