Extent of the French Empire

Welcome to the Creole French Course.

Creole French was the commercial Lingua Franca used between people of different ethnicities that had prolonged contact with French and spoke different and many times completely unrelated languages. It is a tailored variety of the Mediterranean Lingua Franca specifically for the French language.

Creole French uses a simplified grammar in order to allow the diverse peoples, sailors, merchants, farmers, immigrants, and trade partners to learn vocabulary quickly.

This trade language differed depending on where you would live within the French Empire, and its evolutions became the Creole Frenches that we know today, Haitian Creole being the most famous spoken dialect.

This course uses the Cambridge Latin Course as the source material for the story and all dialogues. Only names & locations are changed.

The language of the course does not pertain to any specific Creole French, though its inspiration is that of Creole French dialects of the Caribbean & Louisiana.
