Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! Apisite (talk) 02:30, 21 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

BabelBox

[edit]

Hi, it would be appreciated if you could add a BabelBox to your userpage just for us to know what languages you know. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 21:55, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Removal of content out of process

[edit]

Hi, I've seen a few cases where you've removed content out of process. Please make use of the usual processes like WT:RFV and WT:RFD. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:07, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

老老竇竇 and 老老豆豆

[edit]

The lemma should be 老老豆豆 as it can be considered as a reduplication of lou5 dau3, which we have the main entry at 老豆 instead of 老竇. Could you do the move? – Wpi31 (talk) 06:04, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think that 老老竇竇 should be the main entry because this is a deliberate misspelling of 老老實實. Mahogany115 (talk) 06:05, 26 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Entries with ellipses

[edit]

Hi, I'm noticing that you've been moving a few entries to titles with ellipses. I don't think this is necessary unless the ellipses are in the middle of the entry's title. For example, we would not have ……著 even though only attaches after a verb. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:45, 4 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, can you please respond? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 22:31, 21 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I only add ellipses for snowclones. Mahogany115 (talk) 06:09, 16 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

盤纏, dialectal or archaic?

[edit]

Sorry, but I can't much agree to your opinion. I checked all of those dictionaries to which I can refer, including two from Taiwan, and found it only writes colloquial on some of them; neither archaic nor dialectal was found. To me, the word is still in use and I learned it at a very young age. Maraschino Cherry (talk) 19:33, 11 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template:syn lb inline modifier

[edit]

Hi, I notice you've been using the <tag:...> inline modifier for {{syn}} and {{ant}}. This is changing to <lb:...> because the values are now parsed as labels, as with the {{lb}} template. Benwing2 (talk) 20:10, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Could you please provide an example for 解壓縮's sense 3?

[edit]

Also, the first sense I think may be deleted for this term is only used in computing, otherwise I don't know if you have any supproting testament. Maraschino Cherry (talk) 15:14, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
