بَاع (bāʕm (plural أَبْوَاع (ʔabwāʕ))

  1. a linear measure derived from the distance between the two outspread arms of a man – which is mostly equal to his height, a قَامَة (qāma), a fathom, about 180 centimetres
  2. the body, including the limbs
    رَجُلٌ طَوِيلُ البَاعِrajulun ṭawīlu l-bāʕia man tall of body (literally, “a man tall in body, a man of great generosity”)
  3. the arms (especially when extended to their full reach)
  4. reach, power, ability, eminence, nobility, honour, generosity
