Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘁𑘜 (āṇa), 𑘁𑘡 (āna), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀆𑀡𑀸 (āṇā), 𑀅𑀡𑁆𑀡𑀸 (aṇṇā), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀦 (aṃna), from Sanskrit आज्ञा (ājñā). Doublet of आज्ञा (ājñā). Cognate with Ahirani आन् (ān).
