Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘦𑘰𑘪𑘜𑘹 (kamāvaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀸𑀯𑁂𑀇 (kammāvei), from Sanskrit *कर्मापयति (karmāpayati). Cognate with Gujarati કમાવું (kamāvũ), કમાવવું (kamāvvũ), Hindi कमाना (kamānā), Sindhi ڪَمَائِڻُ / कमाइणु (kamāiṇu), Punjabi ਕਮਾਉਣਾ (kamāuṇā), Nepali कमाउनु (kamāunu), Bengali কামানো (kamanō), Odia କମାଇବା (kamāibā).
