[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀡𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀭 (*ṇiḍḍara), from Sanskrit निर्दर (nirdara, “pitiless, *fearless”). Cognate with Pali niddara, Punjabi ਨਿੱਡਰ (niḍḍar), Gujarati નિડર (niḍar), and Nepali निडर (niḍar). Equivalent to नि- (ni-, “off, without”) + डर (ḍar, “fear”).
