Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀡𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀭 (*ṇiḍḍara), from Sanskrit निर्दर (nirdara, pitiless, *fearless). Cognate with Pali niddara, Punjabi ਨਿੱਡਰ (niḍḍar), Gujarati નિડર (niḍar), and Nepali निडर (niḍar). Equivalent to नि- (ni-, off, without) +‎ डर (ḍar, fear).
