Maria Guzenina
Maria Guzenina (born January 12, 1969 in Helsinki, Finland) is a television presenter and former MTV VJ.
After the MTV years
Her later career has involved politics within the ranks of the Finnish Social Democrat Party (abbreviated SDP). She has been elected a member of the Espoo community council and is campaigning to become MP in the spring elections of 2007. Asked by the Channel 3 election special hostess about how many votes she hoped to win, she answered:
"9875 + 1 from myself, equalling 9876"1
which proved that she had not lost her sense of numeric humour unlike many others running for politician. A place in the legislature can be secured with 5.000-25.000 personal votes (constituencies favour whole parties) but competition is the stiffest in the biggest three cities Turku, Tampere and Helsinki.
Her political agenda centers on families, childcare and the like.
In addition to politics, Guzenina worked as a radio journalist in the now defunct Radio Aino and Yle Q, which were both AOR radio stations targeted at the thirtysomething and fortysomething crowds. On radio, she could be heard co-hosting a programme with a man about the pitfalls of relationships for couples. Later she wrote a book on the subject, entitled Parisuhteen käsikirja ('A manual for relationships').
Private Life
Marriage to Briton Mark Richardson, the drummer of Skunk Anansie fame, ended in 2001 century due to the spouse's alleged infidelity. Custody of their joint child was entrusted to Guzenina, who allows paternal visits.
Guzenina has given several interviews in Finland making comments about her troubled teenage in a dysfunctional family.
Trivia
Her surname Guzenina comes from her maternal, partly Russian side.
Before she became MTV VJ, she hosted an advertising campaign (1994-1995) about study and job prospects in Europe with an educational rather than entertaining emphasis.
In late 2006 Guzenina filed a lawsuit against Wikipedia for alleged blackballing, but the police dropped the case after brief consideration.
