Noura Erakat is a Palestinian American legal scholar, human rights attorney, and assistant professor at New Century College, George Mason University.[2][3] She is an activist and writer,[4] as well as a specialist in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,[5][6][7][8] refugee law, humanitarian law, national security law, and social justice.[9] Erakat is one of six core figures who launched Jadaliyya in 2010 (an ezine in English, Arabic, and French that is an initiative of the non-profit Arab Studies Institute (ASI) in Washington, D.C. and Beirut, Lebanon).[10][11]

Education and career

Erakat graduated with a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 (Phi Beta Kappa) and was a UC Berkeley Human Rights Center Summer Fellow in 2003.[12] She received her J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2005 and was awarded the Francine Diaz Memorial Scholarship Award in the same year.[13] Finally, she completed her L.L.M at Georgetown University Law Center (with distinction and Dean’s List) in 2012.[9]

Erakat has "served as legal counsel to the House of Representatives Oversight Committee"[3] and has previously taught at Georgetown University.[9][3] From 2012-2014, she was a Freedman Fellow with Temple University Beasley School of Law.[14] She currently serves on the board of the Institute for Policy Studies,[15] is a member of the Board of Directors for the Trans-Arab Research Institute,[16] and is a policy advisor with the Al-Shabaka Network.[17]
