Oceans Ate Alaska signed to Density Records in 2012, a year after their formation in 2011. They have released two EPs with the label.[2] In 2014, the band signed to Fearless Records.[3] The band was featured on Fearless Records' compilation album Punk Goes Pop 6, covering "Drunk in Love" by Beyoncé.[4][5]

On 7 October 2014 the band released a new song "Blood Brothers",[6] on 6 January 2015, the band released the second single "Floorboards", announcing the release of their debut album Lost Isles for 24 February 2015.[7]

On 26 January 2015 the band released the music video for the third single "Vultures and Sharks".[8]
