Chamical is a municipality and village in La Rioja Province in northwestern Argentina.[1] With a population of 12,919 permanent residents at the 2010 census [INDEC], it is the third-largest settlement in La Rioja Province after Chilecito. It used to be the site of the CELPA aerospace test center. The town is crossed by the Tirante Wadi and lies on National Route 38, 87 miles (141 km) from La Rioja City. This young town has been an important site in several stages of Argentine history for the last fifty years.

Climate

Chamical is located in the Llanos Riojanos (Spanish for "Riojan Plains") and has four distinct seasons, giving it a BSh semi-arid climate under the Köppen climate classification. Winters are quite cold, but usually sunny; rather, snowfall is an odd occurence. Springtime is mild, windy and wontedly warm. Summers are hot (as is common with La Rioja Province) and, most often, the mercury rises to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38° Celsius) or higher, which means unpleasant. Fall is mild and pleasant, but can go chilly.
