Chukhloma (Russian: Чухлома́) is a town and the administrative center of Chukhlomsky District of Kostroma Oblast, Russia, located on Chukhloma Lake, 50 kilometers (31 mi) from the railway node Galich and 171 kilometers (106 mi) northeast of Kostroma. Population: 5,464 (2002 Census);[1] 5,597 (1989 Soviet census).[2]

It was first mentioned in chronicles in 1381, and was destroyed during the Time of Troubles. It was granted town status in 1778.

Near the town there is a historical family estate of the Lermontov family.
