Dillon Michael Tate (born May 1, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization. He played college baseball at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was drafted by the Rangers in the first round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

Career

Tate attended Claremont High School in Claremont, California. He committed to the University of California, Santa Barbara to play college baseball for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.[1] As a freshman he appeared in four games and had had a 9.00 earned run average (ERA). As a sophomore he served as the closer, finishing with 12 saves, a 1.45 ERA and 46 strikeouts.[2] Tate was expected to enter his junior season in 2015 as the closer again, but was converted into a starter after an injury to one of the teams starters.[3][4][5] He started 14 games, going 8–5 with a 2.26 ERA and 111 strikeouts.

Tate was considered one of the top prospects for the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft[6][7][8] He was drafted by the Texas Rangers with the fourth overall selection.[9] He officially signed with the Rangers on June 12.[10]
