For All the Dogs is the upcoming eighth studio album by Canadian rapper and singer Drake. It is set to be released on October 7, 2023, delayed from its original release date of September 22, by OVO Sound and Republic Records. The album features guest appearances from Nicki Minaj, Bad Bunny, SZA, Yeat and Lil Yachty. Production was handled by 40, Bnyx and Yachty, among others.

The album follows both of Drake's albums that were released in 2022: his seventh studio album, Honestly, Nevermind and the collaborative studio album Her Loss (with 21 Savage). It was preceded by two singles: the lead single, "Search & Rescue", which was released on April 7, 2023, and the second single, "Slime You Out" featuring SZA, which released on September 15, 2023. The songs charted at number two and number one, respectively, on the US Billboard Hot 100. A third single, "8AM in Charlotte", was released on October 5, 2023.

Background and promotion

On January 21, 2023, during his free concert at the Apollo Theater, Drake teased the release of an album, saying he wanted to "strike up more emotions, maybe this year".[2] He also responded to the negative reception of his previous few albums, stating: "I've thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time none of those things are stopping making music for [the fans]".[3] The album's lead single, "Search & Rescue", was released on April 7; the song debuted and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and was produced by brothers Bnyx and BeautifulMvn, as well as SadPony, Wesley Curtis, and co-producers Lil Yachty and 40.[4]

On June 23, Drake announced the July 14 release of his poetry book titled Titles Ruin Everything, which was co-written with songwriter Kenza Samir and previously teased in summer 2022.[5][6] One day later, full advertisements on the front-page of the New York Post contained an incorporated QR code.[7] Upon scanning, the QR code redirected to a landing page with a picture of two puppies above a statement: "I made an album to go with the book... They say they miss the old Drake, girl don't tempt me. For all the dogs".[8][9][10] Its title was soon officially confirmed by OVO and Republic.[11][12]

During his performance in Detroit on July 9 for the It's All a Blur Tour, his co-headlining tour with 21 Savage, Drake announced that Nicki Minaj would appear on the album.[13] He also announced that Bad Bunny would appear on the album during his performance in Los Angeles on August 13.[14] Eight days later, Drake revealed the album's cover art, which was drawn by his son.[15] On August 22, Amazon Music announced on social media that the album would be released in three days, but the statement was later deleted.[16] On September 6, Drake confirmed the September 22nd release date; two days later, an album trailer was released which depicted Drake's father, Dennis Graham, performing on the Canadian television series Stormy Monday with Danny Marks, in the early 1990s.[17]

On September 14, Drake and SZA shared a single cover, depicting Halle Berry at the 2012 Kids' Choice Awards, on their social media, alluding at a collaboration; a day later, the single "Slime You Out" was confirmed and released.[18] The song did not feature Berry as the artwork, after she voiced her disappointment at not being consulted to use her likeness.[19] A day later, Drake announced the album would be delayed again, citing conflicts with the It's All a Blur Tour; it is now set to be released on October 6, the same day he will be performing his first show in Toronto.[20] "Slime You Out" went onto debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Drake's twelfth US number one. On October 5, he surprise-released the song "8AM in Charlotte", presumably taken from the album.[1]
