Jeffrey Lichtman (born June 5, 1965) is a New York-based criminal defense lawyer. He is widely regarded as one of the best criminal lawyers in New York, described by the New York Daily News as a "legal genius" and in The Washington Post as "pugnacious and highly entertaining."[1][2]

Early life and education

Jeffrey Lichtman was born on June 5, 1965 in Newark, New Jersey, United States.[3] He grew up in Clark, New Jersey.[4] He attended Emory University for his bachelors and graduated in 1987.[3] He then went to Duke University School of Law and graduated in 1990. He opened his own law firm in 1999.[4]

Career

Lichtman's law offices are in midtown Manhattan. He represented John Gotti Jr. and managed to secure a dismissal of three charges of murder conspiracy, an acquittal on a $25 million securities fraud charge and a hung jury on every remaining count brought against him.[1] In addition to John Gotti, Jr., some of his clients include rappers The Game and Fat Joe.[2][5]

From 2011 to 2013, Lichtman hosted a radio talk show on AM 970 The Answer during the Drive time.[6]

In 2017, he was hired by the suspected Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán to represent him in the trial he is currently facing in the United States.[7]
