Khin San Win (Template:Lang-my; born 8 June 1965) is a Burmese make-up artist, fashion designer and hair specialist who then became an actress. She is also known by her nickname as Ma Gyi San while working as a make-up artist in Myanmar for decades.[1][2][3][4]
Early life and education
Khin San Win born on 8 June 1965 in Yangon, Myanmar, born to be a boy. She growing up with three brothers and one sister. In youth, she had to face misunderstanding, discrimination, abuse and violence, even within the family. She attended high school at Basic Education High School No. 2 Dagon and graduated from University of Yangon.[5]
Career
Make-up artist
Her age 18, she learned the art of make-up from make-up artist Ko Toe and female make-up artist Sandi. At age 21, she opened a hairdressing salon on 34th Street, Yangon. At that time, she was unknown make-up artist, she approached popular movie stars in an attempt to win their custom. She got to know the stars and started making a name for herself in the make-up industry. Her rising to fame as she worked with actress Htet Htet Moe Oo, Htoo Mon, Myo Thandar Htun and others, arranging their hair and changing their look. She started her dress service when she was age 26.[1]
She owns a bridal make-up and wedding dress service and opened make-up classes and enjoys the adoration of the country’s LGBT community. And she became an movie star.[6][7][8]
Acting career
She made her acting debut with leading role in the Burmese big-screen movie Ma Gyi San and Her Lovers with actor Htet Aung Shine and Zwe Pyae, directed by Myat Khine, film released in 2016.[4]
In 7 August 2017, she start acting lead role in her second film, Tanay Mhar Maung Ko D Akyaung Tway Pyaw Pya Ya Oo Mal alogside actor Aye Chan Maung and directed by Naing Myo Tun (Yangon University), film released in 27 February 2018.[9][10]
In 2018, she starring in her third film.[11]
LGBT support
Khin San Win is one of the supporter and advocate for LGBT rights in Myanmar.[12]
