Nikita is an American television drama for The CW Television Network. It is based on the 1990 French film Nikita, 1993 remake Point of No Return, and the 1997 television series La Femme Nikita. It premiered on September 9, 2010, Thursdays at 9:00 pm Eastern/8:00 pm Central.[1] On October 22, 2010, the CW gave Nikita a full season pickup of 22 episodes.[2][3]

The story centers on a secret organization known as Division. Targeting young people from a troubled background, Division erases all evidence of their past lives and molds them into efficient spies and assassins.[4] Nikita is the first recruit to escape and promises to bring down her former employers.[4] Having trained Nikita, Michael, a Division operative, is ordered by his boss Percy to deal with his former student. In the meantime, Division continues training its recruits, Thom, Jaden, and the newest, Alex.[4]

Nikita (Maggie Q), an assassin and former recruit seeks revenge on Division, the secret U.S. agency that once double crossed her after killing the man she fell in love with. Meanwhile, a troubled teenage girl named Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) is arrested for armed robbery. Division fakes her death and Michael (Shane West) recruits her and she begins her training. During which time, Division is tasked with an operation known as "Black Arrow," to assassinate an African diplomat before he arrives at the United Nations. Knowing this, Nikita arrives at the hotel the diplomat is staying in to save him and escape before Division agents could perform the hit. After dropping him off outside the UN building, she confronts Percy (Xander Berkeley), the director of Division. Michael chases her, but she is able to wound him and escape. In the end, it is revealed that Alex is working for Nikita and sends her secret messages to aid her in stopping Division.

Percy and Michael agree to protect Serbian leader Mirko Dadich, who has been exiled from country for war crimes in exchange for uranium he possesses. Alex is activated early to entertain the leader during his stay in America. As Nikita attempts to take out Dadich, he is kidnapped by a group of mercenaries headed by the daughter of the lead scientist responsible for Dadich's nuclear programme. Both Nikita and Division discover their location in a New York Subway station in order to get the GPS device to locate the uranium. During the firefight between Division and the mercenaries, Nikita steals the GPS device and destroys it. No longer useful, Michael kills Dadich. Flashbacks reveal Nikita meeting Alex a year previously, Nikita saved Alex from drug dealers and helps her through detox before training her.

Jill Morelli (Julie Gonzalo), a tabloid journalist is attempting to expose a plane crash that was actually organised by Division. Division responds by killing her boss and frames her for the murder. Nikita intervenes by rescuing Jill, and together, they agree to expose the story. They get into contact with the source, whom they meet and see the video showing Division agents at the site of the crash. However, Michael leads a team to their location and kill the source. Alex secretly alerts local police to the area, who arrest Jill while Nikita takes down the Division agents. Jill is able to expose the story and another Division operation fails. Meanwhile, Michael and Percy believe Birkhoff is leaking information to Nikita (not knowing it is actually Alex). After he is interrogated by Amanda (Melinda Clarke), they discover a tracker on one of his teeth. In the end, Nikita asks Alex to find another way to cover her tracks.

Nikita revisits her first assignment with Division: assassinating a Homeland Security official. She uncovers a fashion store is hiring a triad gang to employ slave labour. Nikita storms a sweatshop, destroys it, and after following the gang leader, realizes that the man organizing it is the same official she thought she had killed; he faked his death after approaching Percy for help in not exposing his true nature. She travels to Hong Kong, catches the man, and drops him off outside a police station. Meanwhile, Alex begins suffering from claustrophobia from a traumatic childhood experience and Amanda is determined to cure her.

Former Division agent Owen Elliot (Devon Sawa) nearly escapes a bank robbery in Montreal after obtaining information about Division's past crimes, and contacts Percy. However, knowing Division's security is in jeopardy, Percy intends to kill him and obtaining the "black box" for himself. Nikita meets Owen's girlfriend, Emily (Bianca Lawson), which eventually leads her to finding Owen. However, Emily is later killed by Division snipers, and Owen is caught attempting to avenge her death. Meanwhile, Alex sneaks into Percy's office to give information to Nikita, but is caught by Thom, though she makes a convincing cover story. Nikita finds Owen, who is now trying to kill Percy, and attempts to talk him out of this; Percy wounds Owen before the two escape. In the end, Nikita takes Owen as an ally, and treats his gunshot while he is unconscious. Alex thanks Thom for covering for her, and he kisses her, though she pulls away.

En route to a training exercise, a bus filled with Division recruits, including Alex and Thom, is attacked by terrorists. Unknown to them, the kidnap and torture is a test orchestrated by Division. What Michael does not anticipate is Alex escaping. She contacts Nikita for help, but before she can get to Alex, Michael arrives to reveal the test. Meanwhile, as Owen begins to trust Nikita, he reveals that he was the Division cleaner that assassinated her fiance. In the end, he escapes and recovers the black box he dug up from the previous episode.

Alex alerts Nikita that a low-level recruit named Sara (Alexandra Krosney) who being sent out to the field. Nikita realises that Division has set up a suicide mission, and decides they should prevent it. The mission is for Sara to infiltrate a suspected eco-terrorist group, but is unknowingly implanted with a bomb. Nikita sabotages the operation and convinces Sara that Division wanted her dead, and plans to set up a new identity for her. Meanwhile, another recruit, Robbie (Bug Hall), "graduates" to a guard rather than a field agent he'd hope to be. When Michael and a team surround Nikita and Sara, Michael is ordered to return and let the two escape following a "code black"; Robbie, angered at not being an agent, kills several guards before Alex stops him. In the end, though she believes Robbie is dead, it is revealed Division is keeping him alive to use him as a "cleaner".

Nikita begins by failing to prevent the assassination of intern and mistress to a U.S. Senator Anna Harcourt, killed by Thom, now graduates to a full agent. Upon investigating, Nikita comes to realise that Harcourt's death may have been justified due to her working for Gogol, an organization more dangerous than Division, and is soon kidnapped by a couple masquerading as her parents. She wakes up to find she is infected with a toxin that will liquify her stomach in 12 hours unless she assassinates the Senetor. Alex steals the anti-toxin and plants it on Thom, who is ordered to protect him. Nikita knocks him out and takes the pill. In the end, the Gogol agent who handled her offers her to join them and stop Division together, but she refuses.

Michael is sent on an unofficial mission to Tashkent, Uzbekistan to kill Kassim Tariq, the terrorist responsible for killing his family. Nikita arrives to assist Michael in the revenge mission. When Percy learns of this, he botches the operation by sending a team of agents, which leads to Kassim kidnapping Michael. Nikita eventually finds him, but Kassim has disappeared. He learns Kassim is going to board a flight to Yemen, but when he tries to fulfil his revenge, Nikita, knowing Michael will die in the process and wants to save him, alerts the airport authorities to apprehend him. Meanwhile, Alex nearly blows her cover when she is caught snooping through medical files to obtain Michael's transmitter frequency. Alex blackmails Jaden into helping her. In the end, Michael returns to Division, and tells Percy he should have never trusted Nikita in the first place.

Owen asks Nikita for help; he leaked to the press that Division set up an assassination of Chilean presidential candidate Andre Quintano, in an attempt to find the other black boxes, but at the same time to save CIA analyst Ryan Fletcher, who has been framed and captured by angered mercenaries. The duo travel to Chile and rescue him moments before he is to be executed. However, they soon find themselves surrounded by Michael's team. While running away from them, the three are arrested by the United States Army. On the way back to the States, Nikita and Owen tell Fletcher about Division, and give him a memory stick before Fletcher arranges the two's escape. Meanwhile, Jaden has decided to focus on spying on Alex. Percy asks Birkhoff to team up with Division's head engineer (Jon Gries) so the black boxes can be activated through wi-fi. The engineer is then killed by Percy, which Alex witnesses by spying through the air vent. What she does find is the location of another box: London, England.

Alex is nervous upon learning she will be tasked to assassinate the leader of a crime syndicate named Zoman, so she can graduate to a field agent. Nikita decides to help her, but Alex insists she can do the kill herself. Birkhoff discovers the shell program used by Nikita to make contact with her operative inside. During the operation, Alex cannot bring herself to kill Zoman, Nikita intervenes while Thom kills Zoman. Realising Alex may die because of her failure, Nikita allows Alex to capture her so they can both escape afterwards. While Amanda interrogates Nikita, trying to make her reveal the idenity of the mole and the location of the black box she has in her possession (which was destroyed at the end of the previous episode), Alex plants explosives as a diversion. However, Thom discovers she is the mole. After the explosives detonate, Alex fights with Thom and accidentally kills him. Nikita tries to take Alex, but she stays behind and frames Thom as the mole. After all potential escape routes are closed off following Nikita's escape, Percy promotes Alex to field agent.

Alex moves into a new apartment and given a cover job. While helping her adjust to her new found position as an agent, Nikita realises Division has implanted a kill chip inside Alex's head, and vows to find a way to control it.[16]

Alex alerts Nikita to her first assignment; to assassinate the prince of Georgia. They both plan to foil the attempt, but Nikita trusts the wrong person, resulting in a stand-off and alerting Division to her presence.[19]

Ryan (Noah Bean) asks Nikita to help stop the delivery of an advanced weapon into the States. Nikita realises that the weapon is being brought by a man named Voss (Matthew Marsden), whom she worked undercover with while she was in Division.[20]
