"Live LilyMu"

Live LilyMu is the second season finale and series finale of Kappa Mikey, but it aired on March 20, 2008 as the twenty-third episode right before a long hiatus. The LilyMu sequences shown, as well as the mock commercials, were recycled from past episodes and altered to fit the story. This episode is notable in that it is the only one of the entire series to focus entirely on shooting the LilyMu program, as well as the only one in which the characters are in costume the entire time.

Summary

The gang puts on a live performance of LilyMu in front of a studio audience consisting of nearly every minor character ever to appear. Guano welcomes the crowd and Gonard keeps them entertained with his prop comic routine, while the rest of the characters prepare mentally back-stage, but things don't go quite as planned.

Mikey intends to put farting powder into Gonard's ice cream as a harmless prank, but after he sprinkles it on, Mitsuki notices the ice cream and eats it instead. She winds up farting uncontrollably during the performance, confusing her cast mates and disgusting the audience. Back-stage, Mikey sheeplishly admits he did it, starting a feud between the two. Ozu throws the ice cream in the trash to prevent it from causing more problems, so a hungry Gonard is all too willing to chase after an ice cream truck passing by the studio than to continue with the performance. They are forced to constantly interrupt the live show with commercials. Ozu tells Yes Man to fill in for the role of Gonard in the meantime, while he himself brings Gonard back. Yes Man proves to be a horrible understudy, stumbling over his lines and moving uncontrollably. To make matters worse, Mikey and Mitsuki won't talk to each other, and it ruins a scene, which leads to Lily storming off the stage in a huff. All this time, Mitsuki continues to fart. The crowd is outraged and demands to be pleased, as there are no refunds. Backstage, Lily shouts at all the cast members so much that she loses her voice.

Ozu returns with Gonard, full of ice cream and possessing a major brain freeze. Guano reports everything that happened while Ozu was away, and has the worst panic attack of his life. Ozu gives Guano some advice he learned when he was starting in show business: "if you end strong, that is how you will be remembered". This motivates the other characters to deal with their individual problems and continue the show no matter what. Mitsuki signs a fan's autograph, but is called 'Fart Girl'. Mikey, seeing this, realizes how she feels. During the last live scene, Mikey enters farting just as much as she was. He explains, in-character, that he took the farting powder so he would be just as humiliated as she is. This touches Mitsuki to the point where she breaks character, and they both make up in a hug... though they still fart while doing it. The audience is moved and satisfied nonetheless. The performance ends in a huge applause, and the cast makes their final bow at the camera.

There is no subplot in this episode.

Fan Cameo Appearance

The episode includes a cameo appearance of the winner of an online fan contest organized and managed by Animation Collective. Contestants were asked to express their love for the show in any way possible. The winner, Lizzy, won for her comics featuring the characters, and she was designed and animated into a scene for this episode- she also voices herself. She is the creator of the fansite KappaMikeyRocks.com, and one of the administrators for KappaMikeyFans.net.

Trivia

  • The two men in the control room are caricatures of Animation Collective employees: editor Dave Killen and director Sergei Aniskov. Only Killen voices himself, as he does scratch dialogue for the animatics, while Aniskov is voiced by someone else. They make a reference to the episode The Man Who Would Be Mikey, calling it "that one with the sword and the dragon". Other cameos include the two animation directors, and some animators.
  • Various minor characters each have their own one-liners, such as Dadzuki, Spartacus, Pirate King, the crying panda, the Tatami Twins, and Socky.
