Post Falls is a city in Kootenai County, Idaho, United States near the Idaho state line between Spokane, Washington, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The population was 17,247 at the 2000 census.
Post Falls is named for Frederick Post, who located there in 1871 to construct a sawmill along the Spokane River. The park bordering the Spokane River is called Q'emlin'Park - meaning "throat of the river".
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.7 square miles (25.1 km²), of which, 9.7 square miles (25.0 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.52%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 17,247 people, 6,369 households, and 4,668 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,786.1 people per square mile (689.3/km²). There were 6,697 housing units at an average density of 693.5/sq mi (267.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.13% White, 0.18% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 1.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.55% of the population.
There were 6,369 households out of which 40.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 20.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household 420 size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the city the population was spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 6 420 4, and 9.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $39,061, and the median income for a family was $42,758. Males had a median income of $32,284 versus $22,798 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,692. About 7.1% of families and 9.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.4% of those under age 18 and 7.5% of those age 65 or over.
Education
The city is home to Calvary Chapel Bible College Northwest. As well as the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center. It has two high schools: Post Falls High School and New Visions Alternative High School, two Middle Schools: Post Falls and River City, and four elementary schools: Mullan Trail, Ponderosa, Prairie View and Seltice. Riverbend Professional Technical Academy offers half day professional program to upperclassmen and the Kindercenter is a centralized kindergarten for the entire district. Also, a new $8,000,000 elementary school was just built and named West Ridge Elementary School on Clark Fork St. near Corbin Park.

Post Falls had around 7,000 people in 1993, but from 1993 to 2003 it nearly tripled to 20,136 and the current 2006 population is 27,427.
It is believed that Post Falls' rapid growth rate will continue, particularly because of its proximity to Coeur d'Alene and Spokane. Unlike the larger cities, Post Falls has far more land to sprawl upon.
Post Falls is home to Buck Knives, a major knife producer. A call center, Center Partners, exists near the Buck Knives headquarters that handles most of T-Mobile's incoming sales calls. Post Falls has been experiencing major business growth recently.
The Spokane River runs through Post Falls, and it's a popular swimming area when families prefer to avoid the crowds in Coeur d'Alene. It's also made the area a popular spot to retire.
Decades after Fredrick Post built the Post Falls Dam, the dam still stood when the Avista Hydroelectric Dam was under construction. At Falls Park (location of dam), one can see the chains that held up the crane for dam construction.
Post Falls is now serviced by the new and improved City-Link Bus System which has stops in Post Falls, Coeur D'Alene, Rathdrum, and Worley.
Post Falls will zone its first R6 (High Rise) area in the summer of 2006. Building will be localized in that area, so as not to follow the expansion style of neighboring Coeur D' Alene, which is running out of room. Post Falls also encompasses the Rathdrum Prairie, acres of farm land if Post Falls eventually needs to sprawl even more.
Cabela's, a hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor recreation store, is currently building a 125,000-square-foot (11,600 m2) retail store in Post Falls. It opened for business in the fall of 2007.
Post Falls is home to Micron executive Don Baldwin.
Post Falls has one of the largest concentrations of traditionalist Catholics in the country known as the Dominican Sisters.
