Stephen Andrew Perkins (September 13, 1963) is an American musician and songwriter. A drummer and percussionist, he currently plays with Jane's Addiction and Hellflower.[1]

Following the dissolution of Jane's Addiction, Perkins continued to play with frontman Perry Farrell in the rock band Porno for Pyros. He also has a solo project called Banyan, and in the 1990s was involved in Lil' Pit with Mike Watt. In 1992, he appeared as percussionist on Rage Against the Machine's "Know Your Enemy" and in 1995, contributed percussion to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "One Big Mob" on their album One Hot Minute (fellow Jane's Addiction member Dave Navarro was the guitarist for the Chili Peppers during the making of that album). Perkins also played drums on the Nine Inch Nails album The Downward Spiral on the track "I Do Not Want This". In addition to Banyan, Perkins worked with Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, Jane's Addiction bass player Chris Chaney and singer/guitarist Steve Isaacs on a project entitled The Panic Channel from 2004 until 2007. Perkins was also involved with members of Suicidal Tendencies in their Infectious Grooves side project, as well as Hellride, a Los Angeles-based Stooges cover band. Jane's Addiction reunited and played at the NME Awards in April 2008. This version of Jane's Adduction played a few club shows as the original line up with reunited bassist Eric Avery. These shows were wonderful small club performances at famed downtown Los Angeles' latino night clubs like La Cita and El Cid. At this time the reunification made an effort for a new LP with Trent Reznor joining the producing helm. This effort resulted instead in only producing re-recordings of a couple of tracks from the Triple XXX Live LP, such as "1%", which was included in the box set of "A Cabinet of Curiosities". A world tour followed with the original line up, but original bassist left the band after tour completion. An album titled, "The Great Escape Artist" was completed in 2011, the first completed original LP since 2003's "Stray's". A long tour followed with bassist Chris Cheney back in the line up. The tour included a two night stop in Los Angeles for a 25th anniversary of the 1988 "El Ritual De Lo Habitual" near week long residency at the historic John Anson Ford Theater in the Hollywood Hills. Jane's Addiction have toured consistently in recent years to support the newly established LOLLAPALOOZA festival in Chicago, South America and now Paris. Also these recent tours celebrated the anniversaries of their LP's "Nothing Shocking" and "Ritual De Lo Habitual", (the later was toured in 2016.) Since 2004 Steve Perkins has been featured in various videos produced by the DW drum company which Perkins exclusively uses in studio and performance. In 2011 Steve Perkins and Jane's Addiction was included into Guitar Center Hollywood's Rock Walk Of Fame where Rush, Yes, Van Halen and other rock musicians of legend status are also commemorated. Since then Jane's Addiction has received a star on LA's famed Hollywood Walk Of Fame. 2017 sees Jane's Addiction at festivals performing world wide.

Biography

According to Farrell's comments during a Jane's Addiction show in Tel Aviv on September 1, 2011, Perkins (whose Hebrew name is Shlomo) celebrated his bar mitzvah on August 31, 1980[citation needed]. The next day, he got his first drum set – the date of the 2011 show marking the 31st anniversary of Stephen playing drums.
