Sumire Nakamura (仲邑 菫, Nakamura Sumire, born 2 March 2009) will become the youngest Japanese professional Go player when she debuts as a 10-year-old and receives her ranking of first dan on 1 April 2019. She will break the record of Rina Fujisawa who became a professional player in 2010 at the age of 11 years and 6 months. She will also be the first Go player to turn pro under Nihon Ki-in's special screening system for "prospective, talented" players who can compete with top players from other countries.[1]

Biography

Born 2009 in Tokyo, Japan, Nakamura is the daughter of Shinya Nakamura, a 9-dan professional Go player. She started playing the ancient board game with her father when she was three and has been competing in national tournaments in Japan by the time she was seven.[2][3][4]
