The Sexbomb Girls (or also known as SexBomb Dancers) are an all-female singing, dancing, & acting group from the Philippines.

History

The Sexbomb Dancers were originally composed of four members upon their formation in 1999. They were backup dancers for Eat Bulaga, the Philippines' longest running noontime variety show. Of the four original members, only Rochelle Pangilinan remains part of the Sexbomb Girls, and is regarded as the leader because of her seniority.

The group began in November 1999 as the Chicken Sandwich Dancers which was an offshoot of the Danz Focus (house dancers of Eat Bulaga). At first there were 4 (Cheryl, Debra, Janine, and Rochelle). The group expanded to 6 with the addition of Jopay and Aira. Then expanded to 7 when Mia added to the line-up and they were called as The Original Seven. The group expanded to 8 (after the first Sexbomb Search), 12 and 13 (during their first FHM appearance) to an all time high of 22.

The Sex Bomb 2002. The Sexbomb Singers were formed that same year, and are billed as Sexbomb Girls in their shows and promotional materials. The dancers did shows under the dance albums, Sexiest Hits Series and "I Like." The Sexbomb Singers and Dancers are commonly still referred to as the Sexbomb Girls.

The Sexbomb Girls is managed by Joy Cancio, of FOCUS Entertainment Inc. Joy is veteran of the Vicor Dancers of the 1980s.

Members assigned in Japan

Focus E has assigned many Sexbomb members as well as Danz Focus members to Japan for charity concerts and as well as vacation. They have recently returned to the Philippines on March 2008. The excursion usually lasts six months before another batch of group members goes to Japan. The Japan excursion has led to much confusion regarding the current members of the group.

The members that were formally sent to Japan were:

  • In 1999, the group was formed. After it's one year the three pioneer members left the group namely, Debra Ignacio, Cheryl Genove, and Janine Reyes. Only Rochelle Pangilinan is the remaining pioneer member of the group together with Aira Bermudez, Jopay Paguia, and Mia Pangyarihan. The first Sexbomb Search was held in early 2001, there are plenty of girls was competed on the said contest but in the finals only ten girls battle for the title. The ten girls are AB, Grace Nera, Izzy Trazona, Jane Lao, JB Cifra, Mae Acosta, Michelle Reyes, Natalie "Babat" Imperial, Weng Ibarra, and Yvette Lopez. In the end, Yvette Lopez won the title and added to the line-up. Due to the success of the search, four new members were added to the line-up and joined the roster namely, Jane Lao, Michelle Reyes, Mae Acosta, and Izzy Trazona. After a few months, Yvette Lopez left the group as her replacement two new members were hired name Weng Ibarra and JB Cifra; Grace Nera was also hired as the new expansion member. Sometime in 2001, new members were added to the rosters namely AB, and Natalie "Babat" Imperial.
  • In 2004, the management started to audition for new members. There were eight girls was chosen and they were called as "The Showdown Sweethearts." In late 2004, the three girls from the contest was chosen to fill the spot from the group, The Sexbomb Girls. The three girls are Cherry Ann Rufo, Louise Bolton, and Mhyca Bautista. They joined the group along with former-returning member, Sugar Mercado.
  • In 2005, the new show from, GMA's sister station, Qtv was launch called Let's Get Aww hosted by Aira Bermudez, CheChe Tolentino, and Johlan Veluz. Management started to auditioning for a new member. In 2006, Hazel Taligatos was hired.
  • On September 2007 on a GMA morning show SIS, featured a contest which searched for new Sexbomb members. Michelle Mercado, 18 was declared winner and is now the newest member of the group. Contest finalist Shane Gonzales is now also part of the group.
  • In January 2009, there's another search for sexbomb through SIS entitled Boombastik na Hatawan Single Ladies Pasiklaban. The competition started in February 16, 2009.
  • In the year 2010 many of the sexbomb dancers resigned in the group cause some of them want to persue their studies or they want to make their own names so Ms. joy cancio decided to have an audition for the nxt sexbomb dancers the winner of the dance contest will have 500,000

Careers

Singing career

Originally, the singers line-up were Rochelle Pangilinan, Jopay Paguia, Weng Ibarra, Evette Pabalan, AB, and Sugar Mercado. They were called as Sexbomb Singers Circa in early 2002. They were introduced through their first album called "The Sexiest Hits" in 2002. But in late 2002, due to AB and Sugar's departure from the group Izzy Trazona and Monic Icban were hired to fill their spot. In late 2002, the new batch of singers were introduced through their very first album called "Unang Putok" features the vocals from Rochelle, Jopay, Weng, Evette, Izzy, and Monic. In early 2004, Mariam Al-Obaidi was hired as an additional member for singers' line-up. Mariam was introduced on their third album. But after one year, Monic and Mariam left the group and CheChe Tolentino was hired to fill their spot. She was introduced on their fourth album. But CheChe's singing spot from the group was short-lived as the management decided to retain the remaining original members of the singers.

Fans had thought that Monic's and Mariam's replacement would the DJ Bomb Girls (Danielle Ramirez and Jovel Palomo).

Fans had thought that the other members from the dancers were the new singers additional members. Like Mia Pangyarihan, Sunshine Garcia, CheChe Tolentino, Grace Nera, Johlan Veluz, Louise Bolton, Mhyca Bautista, and Shane Gonzales. Even fans had thought the former member, Kryz Moreno, would be the additional member because in the season seventeenth of their tv show called "Daisy Siete," Kryz was a singer.

In 2001, the Sexbomb Search winner, Yvette Lopez, was also considered to be a singer.

may be the last season

Daisy Siete has been a ratings mogul since its premiere, charting its highest rating at 25% in December 2003 (first season). This is a very high rating for the afternoon block. These days Daisy Siete rates anywhere from 15% to 21%. It has blown away all the shows put up by rival networks to compete with it. Some of these shows are Colgate Trip Kita, Sarah the Teen Princess, Kapamilya Cinema to name a few.

From 2002-2003, the girls were also part of Da Boy and Da Girl, with Rochelle as Britney, and the girls as japayukis.

Daisies

A new group of the Sexbomb Girls (having five members) have been generated due to the new season of Daisy Siete namely 'Adam or Eve.' The Daisies first appeared in the music video 'Take One' which is a song and the theme song of 'Adam or Eve.' They were wearing a mask, so no one knew who they really were. After some weeks of spectaculations of who the Daisies are, they have been unmasked on 5/7/2010. The Daisies are:

  • Che-Che Tolentino (Daisy Yellow)
  • Mhyca Bautista (Daisy Blue)
  • Louise Bolton (Daisy Green)
  • Jomarie Guiterrez (Daisy Purple)
  • Jaja Barro (Daisy Red)

Since several Sexbomb members left the group, they added two new members to list and they are Jomarie and Jaja.

SexBomb Girls Dispute

The SexBomb Girls (both dancers and singers) rebelled and stayed away from working on Eat Bulaga when one of the show's producers hired Sugar Mercado and promoted her heavily after her contract with Joy Cancio, the girl group's manager, had expired. Cancio claimed she decided to take the famous group off the show in protest of the said decision. There were even speculations that the producers had actually preplanned a way to get the SexBombs off the show, most likely due to salary issues. As a result, media sources reported rumors that the SexBomb Girls were going to be hired by ABS-CBN to move to Wowowee, ABS-CBN's noontime Variety Show, but Cancio denied the rumor and stressed that the group still has a long term contract with GMA Network, especially with regard to the hit afternoon drama show Daisy Siete. The producer of Eat Bulaga accepted a texted apology from Cancio, but also said the time was right to move on. A return to Eat Bulaga by the SexBomb Girls was then thought to be unlikely, and they were later "replaced" by a new dance group: The EB Babes.

The Return of the SexBomb Girls

On December 16, 2006 the SexBomb Girls appeared on Eat Bulaga for the first time in nine months during the "Give Love on Christmas Day" segment with a song and dance number. Former SexBomb Girl Sugar Mercado rejoined the girls in the said number and some Eat Bulaga hosts were happy to see them again. On March 12, the SexBomb Girls returned as "guest dancers" once again - but only appearing during Fridays.

SexBomb vs. EB Babes

The two groups finally met each other in a "showdown" on February 3, 2007, as requested by the public, especially the fans of both groups. The episode gained a 31.2% share of the ratings for that day. Rumors later surfaced about a possible rematch between the two groups, but in a TV interview with the SexBombs, it was revealed that there would be no rematch with the EB Babes for a while, but, a couple of weeks later, they met each other for another showdown, but, it was less popular than the previous one. Right now, the SexBombs are currently seen on Mondays and Fridays on a temporary basis, while the EB Babes are also seen on the rest of the week. Occasionally, the two groups can be seen together during opening numbers on Saturday episodes. During the first showdown, not all of the members participated in the 'Itaktak Mo' Dance off. Only 10 Sexbomb Girls were designated to showdown with the Eb Babes because the EB Babes had 10 members also during the showdown. Here are the 10 members of the Sexbomb that took part in the 'Itaktak Mo' Danceoff:

  • Rochelle Pangilinan
  • Evette Pabalan
  • Izzy Trazona
  • Che-che Tolentino
  • Mhyca Bautista
  • Grace Nera
  • Louise Bolton
  • Johlan Veluz
  • Mia Pangyarihan
  • Aifha Medina

However, not all of the 10 designated dancers had an individual showdown with some of the individual EB Babes, it was only:

  • Sexbomb Evette vs. EB Babe Belle
  • Sexbomb Che-che vs. EB Babe Ann
  • Sexbomb Mia vs. EB Babe Madel
  • Sexbomb Mhyca vs. EB Babe Lian
  • Sexbomb Rochelle vs. EB Babe Saida

Magpakailanman has featured the life stories of several Sexbomb Girls with them playing themselves: Sunshine Garcia, Jacque Estevez, Aira Bermudez, Evette Pabalan, Johlan Veluz and Aifha Medina. Rochelle Pangilinan's story was played by Rufa Mae Quinto. Rochelle has portrayed other characters twice, and Aira played the Aeta featured in one episode. All of these were winners in the ratings game.

Their manager, Joy Cancio, has also been featured on the show and had Rochelle, Aira, and Jopay as guests. She was played by actress, dancer and TV Host Regine Tolentino in her (Cancio) life feature. Tolentino went on to portray Cancio in the other life feature of the Sex Bomb. Like the Sexbomb episodes, this was once again a ratings champion. To date, there is no one Sexbomb-related episode of Magpakailanman is not successful.

GMA News and Public Affairs

Are you a registered voter and still clueless about the new automated process of the elections?

If the answer to that question is “yes,” then this new “Sexbomb” video from GMA Network is a must-see.

The network tapped the dancers, who started their career as backup dancers for a noontime show, for a song-and-dance video to educate voters about automated elections.

GMA Network has released this video, “Bilog na Hugis Itlog,” which describes the process of shading new ballots.

The video clip also teaches voters to cast votes by simply shading the circle that corresponds to the name of their preferred candidates. It also includes instructions on the number of candidates a voter can choose in a specific contest.

Will this video be as infectious as their “Spaghetting pataas at pababa” video done in the past? That remains to be seen.

Let's Get Aww!

The Sexbomb Dancers were mainstays of QTV Channel 11's weekly dance-oriented show Let's Get Aww! which aired last November 2005. It was hosted by SB Dancers Aira Bermudez, Johlan Veluz and Cheche Tolentino. However the show was short-lived. It only lasted for one season.
