Coat of arms in question

[edit]

After reading the blazon for County Longford I noticed the image does not match the blazon. The same image is also used on the County Longford page. The reference for the blazon comes from the Register of arms. Either the image is inaccurate or the blazon and reference are wrong. I have a hunch the blazon is correct so I am going to start creating an image. --Xavier (talk) 06:01, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blazon question

[edit]

I have nearly completed the County Longford blazon but, I am not sure about one detail. The blazon reads:

  • "Per pale azure and or a castle of two towers counterchanged on a chief wavy per pale of the second and of the first a hound courant also counterchanged"

The detail I get confused on is this.

  1. Does the chief get a horizontal wavy parted per fess (in other words, does the chief get a horizontal wavy at the bottom)?
  2. Or does the chief get a vertical wavy strictly within the chief parted per pale?
  3. Or does the entire field get the wavy parted per pale?
The conclusion I came to is number 2. --Xavier (talk) 04:35, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of arms updated

[edit]

This coat of arms has been long over due with an incorrect image. I have created and uploaded for fee license a new image to match the blazon. --Xavier (talk) 11:47, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Number of townlands in Ireland?

[edit]

The article state that "Townlands are the smallest officially defined geographical divisions in Ireland, with 944 townlands in the county." This can not be correct: It must be more that 60 000, according to "Irish Townlands", Townlands.ie. Finn Bjørklid (talk) 10:17, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence is talking about the county, not the country. Though it might be better stated as "in County Longford". Declangi (talk) 01:13, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
