Picture
the picture here is interesting, since the russian family appears to be from russia...and i dont think russia militarily controlled pennsylvania in 1910 !! the point here is that these are truly settlers, but i think the modern definition in the opening sentence cannot be correct....please let others add their thoughtsAnlace 06:09, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- True. Perhaps just "migrant" is a sufficient definition. The article may need additional clean-up/pruning, maybe even transfer of sections over to Human migration. Any thoughts on this? "Settler" seems to carry the meaning of permanent settlement of sedentary populations in an area that was previously mostly home to (semi-)nomads, e.g. Lapland, Patagonia or Newfoundland. //Big Adamsky 12:49, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
hi big A: i generally concur with your comments. we probably do need a page on "settler" because it links to many other sites here on wikipedia. perhaps the settler article needs division into categories of settlers: prehistoric migrants, colonial settlers who really didn't arrive usually under protective military cover and modern settlers such as gaza settlement who did have military cover. let me know what you think, best regards, michael Anlace 00:07, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- I support the suggestion to structure the article with sections along the lines described above by Anlace. Please also leave open the possibility of future settlers, e.g. a space colony or settlments in places on Earth that are currently uninhabited. Sdsds 20:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- I added section breaks throughout the article. I am concerned that there are no citations used throughout the article, particularly when citing specific examples. Please add inline citations where possible. – Freechild (BoomCha) 05:02, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Settler state
Should there be an article settler state? BobFromBrockley 15:29, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Do we have an article about the activity/process of human settling? Settling article is concerned with a geological activity. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Ensconced redirect
This is an unusual redirect that seems to be out of context. Perhaps someone picked up "settled comfortably" in wikt:ensconced and made a leap. Cellmaker (talk) 13:30, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
