On a break
In the past three weeks, I have received 13 emails with the title "Account details on Wikipedia" telling me that someone has been trying to hack my account or, more likely, just trying to intimidate me. The last one was this morning at 4:03 my time, by 216.206.221.86. All the IPs geolocate to Georgia (the one whose capital is Atlanta). Apparently, I was out of line publicly speculating about who this was and why they starte when they did. If so, I apologize. Anyway, I'm not worried about my account being hacked, but not being able to vent publicly in a manner that I thought was acceptable is somewhat stressful.
The same period has also seen some odd activity going on at several articles I edited earlier in the year. I am unwilling to disclose the details in public for several reasons (my own privacy, the privacy of article subjects, the good name of at least one established Wikipedian who seems to have been duped, BEANS issues...), but I can be contacted by email.
Anyway, the whole affair—or combination of several coinciding affairs—has caused me a significant amount of stress, so I think I need a wikibreak. Hopefully a short one, but we'll see. There's also some IRL stuff (a family event in September that I feel obliged to attend even though it's on the other side of the world, I'm not vaccinated yet, I have no possible way of getting vaccinated thanks to the schedule where I live, neither my home country nor the country in which I am habitually resident is especially accommodating or even transparent when it comes to unvaccinated travellers...) so that might play into things as well.
Also thank you User:Beeblebrox for your most helpful input. I was going to move ahead with that today, but subsequent events have made me decide that an immediate Wikibreak was in order. I'll keep it for later, anyway, and probably redraft it with an emphasis on the point you made.
