AfD nomination of Possessionless

An article that you have been involved in editing, Possessionless, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Possessionless (2nd nomination). Thank you. I've removed the speedy deletion tag and expanded his article. Subject is notable in UK/Ireland as much as any other well-known character actor there. Will add more biographical information as I locate it. Hope this article can stand Be best (talk) 22:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Forumize Article

So I cannot create an article about my organization? I had some people on my site suggest that I put some information on Wikipedia, I have not really done anything here before. I was just throwing up information about our current projects in development and what we are working on, and some background of the company.

It wasn't really an advertisement nor is it advertising our products its informational. If I cannot create it could someone else do it, would I be allowed to place edits where necessary?

Thank you.

--Reply 2

Ok I see, I will take a look at those links you left me. So is there I way I can put the article in a "draft" state and add what I want about it, and then let 3rd party people or people just add bits and pieces about my site, I don't care if its positive or negative or what they say about me as long as its true (I've been told the talk page for the article is where I can argue my point, fine enough for me).

After its done editing will it still have that marked for speedy deletion? And someone put up a conflict of interest I think I have been pretty unbiased of what I have said about the site - just because I am the one writing it. Again the purpose was informational, not to advertise it. I am working in MS Word and then pasting bits and pieces in the wiki article so its in a rough state now :P

Ryan.Boyle (talk) 18:23, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We can't use these. The existing consensus is that band logos are useful if a band is directly associated with ONE specific logo. For example, AC/DC has used the same logo for the entirety of their career. Official logos are consistent and used across several albums. Jimmy Eat World does not have an official logo - they do not have a specific logo trademarked for their usage. All you're posting is their name in a typeface, which is what they're currently using on their website (and on their album). Wikipedia's guidelines are specific - copyrighted images are not allowed where a free alternative is readily available. In the absence of an official logo, the band name is easily replaceable with plain text. -- ChrisB (talk) 21:34, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On Hoffman

So frustrating, I asked nicely that someone give me a few minutes to get this written. Why did you intercept it while I was trying to work on it? This takes time. I have been working on it diligently. Please give me a chance to show her notability PLEASE? Artintegrated (talk) 22:52, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • For some reason I am not able to add addtional information to the hoffman article. I tried breaking it down into bits and reentering but this is not working either. I do have much more information to add at this point and it seems locked to me for some reason. Can you please help me with this issue. I would very much appreciate it. 67.101.30.38 (talk) 16:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC) Artintegrated (talk) 16:02, 9 January 2008 (UTC) sorry about that[reply]
  • I sent the info to a friend who sometimes Wikis and he too could not add the additional information either. Its like the article is stuck in the system someway. Can you help since you were the person who tagged it and caused this to happen? Please! Artintegrated (talk) 22:25, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Have you tried to add anything to it You can go into edit and see where the information is there it just wont upload Its like it is in stasis I dont know what to do but I do feel like it has something to do about it being redirected in the middle of my adding to it Maybe the redirect and the editing was too many issues and it overwhelmed Wikis ability to deal with it. Artintegrated (talk) 05:09, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I really hate to bother you about this again but I tried toreinstall the whole article after I read your last message and to no avail it is still not working I need help Can I sent this information to you for you to try to install for me I dont know what else to do at this time. I am sorry. Artintegrated (talk) 23:38, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • I am having a big problem with the hoffman article as you can see if you go to my user page while I was adding information another person changed the name because I didn't capitalize the last name and when it was reworked the article became stuck in the phase it was even after I tried over and over to add the additional information To no avail Wiki isn't allowing me to add the additional information I need to make this work. *To contest the speedy deletion - add the "hangon" tag as above then state on the talk page of the article your reasoning. The best way to avoid deletion is to provide Reliable Sources showing why the band is notable. Exxolon (talk) 21:54, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh...wonderful

Great - looks like I've been caught in a block. Can someone unblock me please? Thanks.

{{91.108.230.208|Checkuserblock - part of an IP range used for extensive vandalism. Was softblocked 6 months; now hardblocked pending discussion. Please use {{unblock}} if this is problematic for any user.|FT2}}Exxolon (talk) 02:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've dropped a note on FT2's talk page. Please hang on for a response. Thanks. GBT/C 06:45, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, it's now 15:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC) - over 12 hours since I requested an unblock. The blocking admin had a note dropped on their talkpage at 0642. They've edited between 0845 and 1042 and have totally ignored the message. So I'm still blocked. Can anyone explain this please? Exxolon (talk) 15:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As no-one seems to give a shit, maybe tagging my page with the following will actually get something done...

{{db-attack}}

Don't do that. We are waiting for the blocking administrator to comment. Be patient. No more speedy deletion tags, or anything else like that, or this page will be protected. - Rjd0060 (talk) 16:08, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The blocking admin seems completely uninterested. Not to mention the fact that they have ALREADY given permission to unblock - viz "Please use {{unblock}} if this is problematic for any user." in the block message. Exxolon (talk) 18:40, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since the blocking admin has been editing twice since the message was placed their talkpage they obviously have no intention of reviewing this block. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE ELSE UNBLOCK ME IMMEDIATELY. If I have to wait for them to deign to comment, I will be blocked for 6 months. Exxolon (talk) 18:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here we go again...

Once again I find myself blocked. As I'm not a sock, vandal, timewaster or anything of the sort being lumped in with them really sticks in my craw.

So...without further ado

{{91.108.200.45|Vandalism: {{checkuserblock}} - nothing but massive sockfarming and vandalism / huge timewaster / really have to go hard rangeblock as there are a lot of sleeper socks here|Alison}}

After the last fiasco though, I'm not holding my breath. Exxolon (talk) 20:43, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the nature of your block, we cannot unblock you without first contacting the checkuser who blocked your IP. Since they have information which is restricted only to users with their level of permission, as per the privacy policy, we must wait for their judgement as to whether you can be unblocked. The checkuser will be contacted shortly - please remain patient while this situation is investigated. Thank you for your understanding. Hersfold (t/a/c) 20:54, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How very.....curious. Pray tell, what happens if the checkuser in question decides to go an a two week wikibreak, or vanishes from wikipedia without warning? Do I remain blocked indefinitely? If you check the User_talk:Exxolon#Sigh...wonderful section above you will see this is a carbon copy of the problem I had then. Perhaps another admin with checkuser privilige can help? Allison does not appear to have edited since around 630am so I wouldn't expect a speedy response there. Exxolon (talk) 21:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In that event, yes, we will try to find an active checkuser to help you out. We can't help that you're on a network that gets used abusively. We get a lot of vandalism here, as I'm sure you're aware, and occasionally good editors get caught in the crossfire. Keeping a positive attitude about the whole thing will help immensely, both for you and us. Just hang in there, and we'll try to sort this out, hopefully for everyone's benefit. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:14, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll also note that your IP has changed from last time - chances are it will change again before the six months are up, likely within a few day's time, if not sooner. You won't be blocked indefinitely because of an IP's abuse. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'm the checkuser responsible for the current rangeblock that you're caught in. I'm really sorry about all this, but the range you are currently using has a very active vandal which is causing a lot of problems right now. There was very little I could do but apply a hard rangeblock, and try to make it as narrow as possible.

Unfortunately, I'm not about to immediately unblock nor reduce this to a softblock as I need to consult with both the checkuser community and the Arbitration Committee on this one. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience here, but there's little I can do. I'll get back to you as quick as I possibly can either way, and let you know what's happening. Sorry about all this - Alison 21:25, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick update to note that ArbCom and the checkuser team are now aware of the situation - Alison 04:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is a VERY disturbing precedent. You're actually saying that blocking vandalism is more important than allowing genuine contributions. Block the bastards and sod the innocent victims that get caught. It's like a IP range quality test - if you're in a range of IPs showing much more vandalism than good work then you're stuffed, regardless of the strength of your contributions. Where does this road end? Pre-approved IP ranges only can edit? Last time I checked this is the free encyclopedia anyone can edit, not the free encyclopedia anyone can edit as long as your IP doesn't fall into a bad range. Exxolon (talk) 13:54, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, you were the first user to be assigned the IPblock-exempt flag due to a block on your underlying IP. You should now be totally free to edit regardless of any blocks- rangeblocks or otherwise- that may be affecting IPs that you are editing from. For more info, see WP:IPEXEMPT. Happy editing. --Deskana (talk) 00:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is the resolution (hopefully) of the block a month ago. As Deskana says -- happy editing !! FT2 (Talk | email) 01:11, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is excellent news indeed. Exxolon, this means that you should be free to edit and we are able to keep the block in place so it's good news for everyone but the vandal :) As it happens, you're the first person ever to have been granted this privilege, as it is only brand-new. Once again, I'm sorry for all this trouble but I can say now in confidence that this will now never occur again as you basically have the same IP block exemption that administrators have. If you ever have any questions or need any assistance with anything at all, just let me know and I'll be glad to help - Alison 01:24, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate everyone's efforts here - sorry if I came across a bit combative. Mind you the fact we need such a facility says something about how determined vandals are to wreck the place. Exxolon (talk) 19:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to find your IP being constantly blocked, so I think we can all excuse you expressing a bit of frustration. Luckily, you need never be frustrated about this again. :-) --Deskana (talk) 01:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the musician isn't latched up to some corporate conglomerate they have no worth. Thats interesting, I thought that that is what wikipedia was all about, information for the people by the people. H. D. Moe's Entry

Dear "Exxolon",

I recently tried to post a page at the request of the poet, H.D. Moe, who is also my friend and roommate. I took the text verbatim from the biography page on H. D. Moe's website, which he wrote and I edited at his request. So the copyright to the biography belongs to, and has always belonged to, H. D. Moe himself. When I submitted the article, I was informed that the text violated the copyright of angelfire.com, a Poetry website which includes the same text (submitted by H. D. Moe and used with his permission). Angelfire.com has never had, or claimed to have, copyright to the biographical text. Rather it's just a cooperative arrangement, whereby Mr Moe can gain wider exposure for his poetry.

I sent an email to that effect to Wikipedia, but the article was deleted anyway (within about 30 min.), and the note in my mailbox came from you. So I assume that you had something to do with the deletion. I rewrote the text, and (as far as I can tell), the revised version is still up. But I wish to register a strong protest.

Sincerely, Doug Rees —Preceding unsigned comment added by DougRees (talkcontribs) 21:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the Accusation

I am sorry that I implied that you had something to do with deleting the article on H.D. Moe. I agree that we shouldn't grab someone else's work without their permission, but I could live without all the legalistic rigamarole.

H. D. Moe has been an important part of Bay Area poetry for over 40 years. He personally knew Jack Kerouac, Neil Cassidy, Allen Ginsburg, Harold Norse, Nanos Valoritis, and many other key literary figures. The article I wrote was factual, objective, informative, and (in my opinion) long overdue. I would think it is in Wikipedia's own interest to have as many articles as possible about important figures in contemporary American literature, and H. D. Moe certainly qualifies as such.

I have NOT contributed an article about myself, because I DO NOT qualify as a noteworthy figure.

Sincerely, Doug Rees —Preceding unsigned comment added by DougRees (talkcontribs) 00:26, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mass deletion of Nokia phone articles

I think it's incumbent on you as the nominator to (a) List everything you plan to delete in the nomination, and (b) put an AFD template on each one of them. At the very least.

Furthermore, blanket nominations of an entire class of article don't tend to encourage good relations between users. It would have been better had you tried to work with the editors of these articles in an attempt to merge the useful information, if you think one article per phone is wasteful. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Stone gods logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Stone gods logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
