Appreciation for a warm welcome!

NemesisAT, I appreciate the welcome message you left on my talk page a month ago. I recently read the Wikipedia guidelines page entitled "Please do not bite the newcomers" and wanted to give you kudos for exemplifying the ideals discussed on that page. I also wanted to try out the quadruple-tilda signature that your post, as well as welcome posts all over the site, reminds new users to use. Thanks for the welcome!

Scholascarlata (talk) 03:31, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Starting on Wikia (now called Fandom) before I started on Wikipedia probably helped me get used to things like signing posts, as it isn't always intuitive. I personally reccommend going into the "Beta" menu at the top of the page (on desktop) and enabling "Discussion tools", it makes it easier to reply to any comment on a talk page, and is what I'm using to reply to you now. No signatures required! You can always leave me a message if you think I can help with something, though there's also the Wikipedia:Teahouse if you'd like to ask a wider range of people. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 16:34, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Weak content

The weak content was removed in the Pokémon articles expressly because the content was there to justify the article's merit, merely by making the Reception look bigger than it actually was. I would have redirected the first one too, I was merely deleting the content to see how much reception actual content the Reception section had. - Bryn (talk) (contributions) 00:48, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your message. I'll be honest, I'm not sure why you feel content like the Official Nintendo Magazine should be removed. But my main objection was to redirecting, nothing personal, I just feel there should always be discussion before that happens. As AfD discussions are now taking place, I'll keep my nose out and let others decide. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 16:24, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Cruis'n Blast, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images from either web sites or printed works. Hi @JBchrch:, I restored someone else's edit as it had been re-phrased since the copyright violating edit earlier on. I was under the impression that re-writing in your own words resolves the copyright issue. Could you please clarify? Thanks NemesisAT (talk) 10:26, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @NemesisAT: Earwig's copyvio tool detected what I considered to be close paraphrasing of https://www.mobygames.com/game/cruisn-blast. In other words, some text in the article was extremely similar to this website, with only a few words changed or swapped, and the structure of the sentences and the paragraphs remaining the same. The article has been added to the Copyright problems log so that specialized editors will take a look. I hope this clarifies. JBchrch talk 11:31, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help, @JBchrch:. I can re-write it again which would hopefully resolve the issue, or am I best to leave it for just now? I do think the article should be kept, which was the primary reason for me restoring the content. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 17:53, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@NemesisAT: Maybe let's just leave it now to see what the community thinks. The worst that can happen is that the section in question gets deleted and revdeled, but the article should remain on the mainspace. JBchrch talk 17:43, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I only noticed after writing that comment that the template placed on the article asks for the content not to be edited. NemesisAT (talk) 17:44, 15 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@NemesisAT: You have probably seen this on your watchlist, but the article has been cleaned of any copyright infringement. You may rewrite the WP:REVDELed sections, but please please be careful of close paraphrasing. Thank you and cheers. JBchrch talk 19:10, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @JBchrch: for the message. I will be more careful in the future. NemesisAT (talk) 19:18, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

prod

Hi, I note that you removed the PROD for Arthur Tyde. Can I please ask you what your rationale is? The concerns are:

  • the article doesn't assert the notability of the subject
  • the references given don't seem to show *proper* coverage in *independent* *reliable* sources
  • the article serves as a linkfarm for various companies

Thank you, Dr. Vogel (talk) 19:51, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I generally favour keeping articles rather than deleting them as we have practically infinite space here on Wikipedia. While I agree the article is problematic (no inline references for a start), I feel the Wired and Linux Magazine sources are enough that notability could be established and as such I didn't want to see this one be deleted without further discussion and analysis. The other links appear to be promotional, but this is okay IMO as long as we have some secondary sourcing, and they can always be removed or replaced with secondary sources in the future. You are always welcome to nominate the article for deletion if you still wish. An easy way to do this is with Twinkle, and under the "TW" dropdown selecting "XFD". Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 20:02, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Dicayes: thanks for your message, I'm good thanks. While I would be happy to add another comment, my understanding is there should be only one vote per person so you should change the second "keep" to a "comment" instead. While you can make as many comments as you like, there is no requirement to do so after a relisting. Right now, the article hasn't changed since I last edited it, so there isn't anything new for me to comment on. However, if you are able to expand the article more please do so and leave me a message, and I'll take another look. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 18:21, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikihounding

Hi. Please desist the wikihounding you've been engaged in for the last month or so, as I've asked you in the past. It's getting very old. Onel5969 TT me 02:28, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Onel5969 I'm sorry if my edits here bother you but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. You've asked me once in an edit summary, which I replied to in a subsequent edit, and at that point I still wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. I have declined PRODs, restored articles from redirects and commented on deletion discussions by various users, not just yourself. I believe all of these actions are in according with Wikipedia's guidelines. I am not picking on you, and am sorry if it feels that way. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 07:06, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NemesisAT, since we had a disagreement a couple of months ago, you're interacting with many of my edits, in a way that could only be done if your following my edit history. If you do not stop, I'll be forced to take further. Sorry it's come to this. I've tried to ignore it, asked you to stop before, and you continue. I won't belabor the point, so please stop. Onel5969 TT me 12:30, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I remember we disagreed about something, though I can't remember what it was. But what really got me into deletion discussions was a post on WikiProject Trains raising awareness of some bus-related AfDs. Since then, I've become a lot more active in this side of Wikipedia as I have tried to reduce the amount of content getting deleted. I will not follow your edits, but I will continue to monitor new redirects (via the tag), AfD discussions, and proposed deletions so we may find ourselves editing the same pages in the future. Once again, sorry about any stress I caused with my edits. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 16:48, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PRODs

Please check the article and its sources before declining a PROD. It's pretty clear that carhop service is not unique in the U.S., based on a simple minute of searching. SounderBruce 22:12, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bruce, my edit summary was supposed to imply that I wasn't sure if the claim was true. Sorry if this wasn't clear. Anyway, I felt this article would be better discussed at AfD rather than deleted by PROD, on the basis that the restaurant (or type of restaurant) may be notable. We do not have this sort of restaurant in the UK, so it's not a subject I'm familiar with. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 22:19, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help for the novice editor

Hi NemesisAT, Can you please advise me on editing Cyber-Complex Foundation? Doesn't it look too "promotional"? How can it possibly be modified and what to include additionally? Thanks a lot :) JinLon (talk) 19:19, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, to be honest, I'm not sure. I thought the article was fine, which was why I removed the PROD notice. I think you just need to find additional references for it to allow it to pass WP:GNG. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 19:44, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article Webster Avenue Bridge has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a random bridge over a train line, and is not notable in any way. This is not a major bridge over a river, or one that is architecturally significant. We can't have articles for every bridge over a train line in an encyclopedia.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Q School

Hi! I see you've reverted the redirect of the 2019 Q School - event 2. Please see the talk at WT:SNOOKER, where there was some consensus that these events weren't independently notable, and that they would be better suited covered by an article covering all three events (see 2019 Q School (snooker)). Happy to take to AfD, but a merge for all three events, but I think it's unlikely they meet GNG on their own. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:37, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I came here to advise that notable people taking part in an event doesn't make the event notable. However, seeing a conversation has started... Merging all three event articles into 2019 Q School (snooker) would lead to either an unwieldly article or a lot of information being lost to keep the article manageable. Looking at it another way, if the sub-pages didn't exist and all the information was contained in 2019 Q School (snooker), then there would probably be calls for the article to be split.
This does actually raise a bigger question about coverage of sports. How much depth should we be giving to tournaments? Do we give in-depth coverage, which means sub-pages to keep the main page from being unwieldy, or do we just summarise on a single page? Looking at tennis, we have multiple sub-pages for each tournament, men's singles, ladies' singles etc. Virtually all of these pages fail the requirement should have well-sourced prose, not merely a list of stats of WP:SPORTSEVENT. A lot have a simple XXXX is the defending champion for the lead, not even mentioning tennis on the page. I think this needs a bigger conversation than the notability of individual sub-pages of a single event. We need to be establishing a consistent approach for events in all sports. This also needs to be a community wide discussions, leaving it solely to individual projects would probably end up in wild inconsistencies such as we have with the SNGs for sportspeople. --John B123 (talk) 22:58, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These pages have been merged. The draws to the individual events, which are the only thing that are on each subpage, aren't exactly important. It's pretty simple for how we should treat this - does the event have enough coverage to meet GNG? If not, the info on who won etc should be merged across. See 2019 Challenge Tour where I've done the same thing. We should totally not just be a place to replicate brackets from other events. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 06:11, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if you would rather I took them to AFD, but I think redirecting is a much better use, and likely the outcome of any discussion. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 06:16, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thanks for your message. I'm not familiar with snooker myself but I feel it would be a shame to lose the information on the individual event pages. I see 2019 Q School (snooker) has some prose, could the diagrams be copied into that page as well? My reversion of redirects was not a personal thing at all, I have just realised a lot of content is being redirected without any wider discussion. As it appears this has been discussed in this case (and in your message here), I'm not too fussed whether the pages are merged or kept separate. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 15:07, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The draw, (or brackets), are simply copied from [3]. For events where the individual tournaments don't meet GNG, we generally merge them into one article, covering who won, and any other info. I've done my best to make the 2019 Q School article as a point to merge these, similarly as to how I handled the 2019–20 Challenge Tour. Whilst we could have a long list of the results, these aren't professional tournaments, so aren't particularly important. I'm going to revert back to these being a redirect for now, as we did have a conversation at WT:SNOOKER. Feel free to comment there if there's anything further. hold your horse is (band)

Hi, I saw you reverted the PROD tag on Hold Your Horse Is (band), saying "Decline PROD, somethign [sic] else having the same name isn't grounds for deletion". For reference, here is what I wrote originally: "This band doesn't meet notability guidelines for music. The article was started and largely written by the band itself. Anybody searching Wikipedia for "Hold Your Horse Is" would most likely be looking for the Hella album." It is possible the band does meet notability guidelines. But a good faith response would've still been preferable. Violarulez (talk) 04:42, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't write a full enough response. I didnt think the nomination was in bad faith, I just thought it was an odd rationale for deletion. I generally decline PRODs if there is any chance a subject may be notable, so please don't take it personally. Best wishes NemesisAT (talk) 08:39, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have no past experience nominating articles for deletion, but I have a hard time believing that lack of notability and largely being written by the subject itself is an odd rationale. so... I don't take it personally, but I think there is a misreading or miscommunication going on. I will try renominating at some point, and remove the third sentence to avoid confusion. As well as spelling out why I don't think they are notable. Violarulez (talk) 00:10, 26 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
