File:1977 Goodall Cup Champions.jpg

You have speedily deleted the above-named file from the article Goodall Cup. I am the person who uploaded the file and I did so according to my best efforts, with the knowledge, permission, and assistance of the owner of the copyright of the photograph (of the 1977 Goodall Cup Champions). Could you please give me a short version of what I should do to upload the file in accordance with Wikipedia's rules, and at the same time please take care not to repeat or copy/paste the verbiage of Wikipedia's many, many instructional and explicative pages, most of which to the layman are neither instructional nor explicative but frustratingly obfuscatory. Silky Sullivan (talk) 22:43, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Silky Sullivan, thanks for message. The image was a copyright violation and is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to images created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that they are public domain or released under the CC BY-SA 3.0 Licence. We require that text and images posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial, but there is no indication that the copied site allows free use, and images are considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. In fact the site says © Legends of Australian Ice, which suggests it is not free to use here.
We cannot otherwise verify that you have permission from the copyright holder either to use the image here or to change its copyright status to conform with our requirements. Your upload explicitly said Not for commercial use, which is not an acceptable restriction here. There are ways to donate copyrighted text and images to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient. I hope that this clarifies, Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:09, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Prominent people for whom there are no written online materials

You deleted without any warning the page Sayyad Amjad Ali (Goldsmith). I was working on it many days and I feel really imparassed. I hope noone ever do the same with your work the same. It is really difficult to find the online references about peopole who are very well known in the circle of their family, relatives, friends, clients and who his multitalented profesional and belongs to the family of jewellers for many generations. My information is based on 7 years cooperation and oral research about this person. I count him to be the suitable person to mention in wikipedia. As a freelance journalist and writer, I have a habit of working through a lot of different information before I start writing an article or book. At this situation, I am confused because it may be possible to find some information in old documents written in Hindi, but I cannot refer to them. It is also difficult to prove the professionalism of the master, because it is not documented in the Western way. Right people to confirm his preofessional skills are older masters inc. his father, uncles etc, but how to refer to it in Wikipedia? Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed in this case? Many individuals who deserve to be mentioned as folk idols and / or masters in their field are not mentioned in online documents that could be used as references. Thank youArendaja (talk) 08:21, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Replied on user talk page. COI promo with no proper sources for a non-notable jeweller Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:44, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:1977 Goodall Cup Champions.jpg redux

I have been discussing with the copyright holder of the "speedily deleted" team photo of the 1977 Goodall Cup champions--the historic photo of the historic team that won the most historic game in the history of Queensland historical hockey--its future with Wikipedia. We hoped we had abided by the Ten Commandments required for non-free content to be placed in Wikipedia (Policy), but we had not bet Grandpa's coin collection on it because the legal eagles who contrived the dicta had not translated them from legalese into a vernacular comprehensible to the layman, "layman" here meaning "any sentient Wikipedia user." We are leaving the issue lay for present because we both have lives. I am glad to see my article "William Allen McLaren" appear. I feared that it had disappeared forever into Wikipedia's metaphorical maw three years ago after I sent it to be published and had heard nary a peep from it since. Pax vobiscum. Silky Sullivan (talk) 13:19, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Silky Sullivan, et cum spiritu tuo. Images on Wikipedia are a nightmare, since almost everything on the web or in print is at least implicitly copyrighted. The exceptions are images taken specifically for Wikipedia, images that are out of copyright, and images from US federal agencies, including NASA, which are nealy always public domain. "Fair use" can only be invoked to illustrate an article on that specific topic, eg an album cover for an article about that album, so your image could only be used in an article about that year's cup match. Full block and talk page revoke of User:Rudra14

Hi Jimfbleak. Could you review the complete talk page revoke and indefinite block of the user Special:Contributions/Rudra14? Full disclosure: I know the user in real life and they do have a COI (not paid editing though) with the concerned NGO Safe Society.

I had told them to admit this and submit for AFC, which they did today and their draft got speedily deleted (a fair decision probably, I didn't see their work). The full block though renders them not even having time to explain now their intentions, disclose their COI and then work with us, or be told how to improve after the draft deletion with the AFC. Thanks a lot. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 14:42, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ugog Nizdast, the deleted page was promotional, a copyright violation and completely unsourced, so it was dead in the water from the word go. Rudra14 can still edit their own talk page, and they can request an unblock using {{unblock|reason for unblock}} However, I'll remove the block for now. I suggest that you post visible guidance on their talk page about disclosing a COI, and how to edit, and I strongly suggest that they don't attempt to write about the NGO again; they clearly don't have the experience to produce a compliant article, and repeated deletions will lead to a reblock, declared COI notwithstanding Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:35, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot :Ugog Nizdast and Jimfbleak, for letting me discuss this. I agree that I may not be upto the mark of your expectations of a compliant article, which I why I wanted this to be reviewed first so I can improvise this and fill in the gaps, the NGO that I am writing about has been over a decade old and has significant ground work. I intended to add more references to it (News Publications), in time as it was under draft and improve it overtime. As far as copyright is concerned, I have given references to viable sources and mentioned details related to the NGO only, writing otherwise would be misleading. While working on this, I referred to multiple NGO pages/organization on wikipedia and to be honest there are enough that have way less references/notability than this and still are available on the platform. It would be very helpful for me if you can help me rewrite it, suggesting areas of improvement in the article. Thanks a lot
Posted guidance on user talk page, also note that the fact that other articles have not been deleted doesn't help you, either they met the criteria or should be deleted as well. See What about article x?. Also, many articles would have been accepted before the notability guidelines were made stricter. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 08:30, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the guidance. I just want to know, is there anyway I can get my draft audited by moderators here, I don't want it to be deleted the next time I prepare the article considering the notability guidelines / criteria. I dont want to run through the same cycle again of writing, drafting and then getting deleted. Please help User:Jimfbleak

Release lock on Richard Muma draft page

Hi, Jim. I've been tasked with creating a wikipedia entry for our new university president, Richard Muma. I've indicated my professional connection with the University. I'm seeking restoration of the draft page for Richard Muma so that edits can be made, or, failing that, unlocking the draft so I can take another stab at it. This is my first article, having only participated in small page contributions in the past Trahmit (talk) 14:29, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Trahmit.[reply]
