You not looking good because I changed that source 7 times, and I know for a fact I saw about twenty article that says Nelson Mandela will be there. Please stop reverting, read the article, and pay attention to the news better License2Kill 23:14, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me about this; fascinating stuff I had not heard before. I agree with you and have edited the article to conform with WP:V. Of course, you're lucky I'm speaking to you at all, as I see you've nicked my idea with the flags, and worse, you put England down but not the much nicer country to the north.... (joking!) Best wishes --Guinnog 09:59, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for changing your flag boxes so promptly. I did say I was only joking! You are right that we have a great drinking culture here though. I see you are from Cape Town; I had some great pints there in the late 1980s. I particularly remember a lovely wee brew pub in George (or was it Knysna?). Long time ago; I wonder if it still exists... --Guinnog 10:29, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

South Africa

[edit]

Rather than delete a sourced quote from the London Times, why not bring in a counter quote to prove your assertion that the London Times author is a racist. Deleting a quote because you dont agree with the author is not a very intellectual or neutral action. There are hundreds of quotes in wikipedia articles i "dont like", but i have never removed one sourced quote. This subject does not seem a happy one in South Africa, but censorship doesnt seem like the answer. regards Joan-of-arc 18:58, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UCT userbox

[edit]

I like it. Thanks! - htonl 14:15, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, "Ikey". You are probably aware of the traditional rivalry between UCT and Stellenbosch University. The apparent origin of the Ikey nickname was from the 1910s as an anti-semitic slur ("Ike" or "Ikey" apparently being a common derogatory nickname for Jews) based on Stellenbosch students' perception that there were a lot of Jewish students at UCT. This nickname was then picked up by UCT students and turned around into a nickname they used themselves. There's an article here which explains "Ikey" and "Matie" in a bit more detail. - htonl 20:24, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Reference on the farm murders page

[edit]

Oh ok, I see what you mean there. Thanks. --Adriaan90 14:18, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, ok ;) --Adriaan90 14:29, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boer Murder

[edit]

I used PROD because it normally takes quicker and is less hassle than AfD or RfD, and for no other reason. If its better procedurally to do it via RfD then rather do so. Cheers! Zunaid 14:32, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inviting you to WikiAfrica Incubator!

[edit]

Hey Lionchow,

WikiAfrica invites you to support the Africa Incubator

WikiAfrica is pleased to invite you as a self-declared African Wikipedian to evaluate the Africa Incubator. WikiAfrica has created the Africa Incubator to support and assist new authors, as they create their first articles and learn the ins and outs of contributing to Wikipedia.

The Africa Incubator is a ‘soft landing’ for new authors to develop articles that relate to Africa. It assists them in becoming compliant and knowledgeable of Wikipedia principles and rules. Based within the Wikipedia framework, the Africa Incubator is fully interactive and enables feedback, assistance and forums.

This is where we need your help! For the Africa Incubator to be successful, it needs the intervention, interaction and experience of Incubator Mentors. We are looking for a pool of active experienced Wikipedians to consistently participate in ’owning’ the Africa Incubator. Incubator Mentors will assist new comers through the editing process. They will also help test and expand the Africa Incubator, and will play a vital role in encouraging newcomers to be Wikipedians for life

Please visit WikiAfrica Incubator to give us your honest feedback and evaluation. WikiAfrica is a ground-breaking project that is designed to Africanise Wikipedia by generating and expanding 30,000 articles over two years. Find out more about this project here WikiAfrica. Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa

[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/
