Wikitextbook Help
Hi, looking for a bit of advice - I hope you can help! I am spent a considerable amount of time creating wikitextbook.co.uk which is aimed at UK students. I have placed information on wikimedia. I am looking at putting some of wikipedia's information on wikitextbook in the hope of getting certain parts of the site started, for example, this page on cell structure. Given your expertise in forks etc can you let me know if this fits in with the copyright? I am satisfied that this is not a fork; a very long debate with other UK educators ensured this! Many thanks --Wikitextbook 00:46, 24 February 2006 (UTC) wiki@wikitextbook.co.uk

alawrence.jpg
Hello. I just read the following message on my talk page.
Superm401 - Talk 00:49, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
I am interested in saving the image concerned, so am attempting to meet your demands. I looked at said list, and found the line "Image:Alawrence.jpg - OR NS --Superm401 - Talk 00:48, 5 February 2006 (UTC)". I have deduced your OR NS to mean the reasons are that the image is unused (orphaned) and unsourced. I have rectified these see the image itself on use at Andrew Lawrence. So if this is all dandy could you please remove the image from the list, return corresposdance to me of any further issues. Thanks. Matt matt me 16:35, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
jam sandwich
Hi there, just thought I'd drop you a line to ask about a bit of deletion you did on an article. A while ago I stumbled on the entry for jam sandwich and thought it odd that the entry didn't mention actual jam sandwiches at all (i.e. slices of bread and jam, pressed together), but only referred to the slang phrase meaning a type of police car. A slang phrase which, as it happens, I hadn't even heard of before. So I wrote an explanation of what a jam sandwich - in common parlance - actually is, and put it above the slang entry. Now, however, you've deleted it. I thought I'd do the decent thing and check your reasons before going ahead and re-posting it (or a version of it). All the best Sinkblister

Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia 04:01, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Image: Reptile response
Hi, I've gotten most of my images from this website, I right-clicked them, clicked "save-as" and saved them to my computer:
http://www.trmk.org/games/mortal_kombat_shaolin_monks/
- So, should I put in Midway's copyright signerature or something? Or do I contact Midway?
- I think that a promotional tag would do nicely.
- All renders for Midway's games for put onto Midway's message boards by Cinder which is where the various MK fansites got them. Link: http://forums.midway.com/Message.aspx?topic=21107406&brd=10705&start=22382110
- I can't say for sure, but whenever Midway releases something like this, he's always the one to post it, so I believe he is. I think that Midway gives him the pictures to put on the internet. So I think he must be employed to Midway
- Cool. I'm glad we got this settled. :)
- Not a problem, I'm making sure from now on. :)

My Petition and Newbies
Hi, to answer your question, I personally don't see anything wrong with getting newbies to sign, for several reasons...
- They haven't been poisoned by the currently toxic atmosphere of wiki-politics
- I AGF in the fact that they are in deed intelligent people outside the "Wikiworld" and can judge something on its merits by looking at it.
- My goal is to get numbers right now, not "certain people"
- It's the easiest and most productive way to get people to find out about it(and even then, only around 3% of my welcomes resulted in signings.)
- I welcome anyway(as of yesterday, I had just over 2400).
However, i'm putting a moratorium on asking newbies for a week or so, out of respect for my friend NSLE among others, and to try a different approach for awhile. If things stall, i'll go back to the newbie signatures, but if they don't, i'm content to word of mouth. Karmafist 03:35, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for any confusion I am very new at this. Image:Harveyhouse4.JPG The image is from me. I took it just the other day. What if I change the license from "promo photo" to something else? Would the source I provided be valid then? Because those promo images can't be from Jennifer Hale's official website [www.jenniferhale.net] because the site does not contain those images, or any images of her at all. The image of Jennifer Hale I uploaded, along with other images of her, are found elsewhere on the Internet, through various other sites. Zidane4028 - Talk 7:19, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I was obviously involved in discussing an unprotection on the talk page of this article; as such, I found it a little offputting that you swooped in and unprotected the article without at least doing me the courtesy of telling me about your plans. May I ask that next time you're considering unprotecting an article in which I'm involved, you at least speak with me first? I'd appreciate it, and would do the same for you or any other administrator. Thanks. · Katefan0(scribble)/poll 05:00, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

my edit on the Holocaust article
After looking back i see that there was allat of nonsense left on The Holocaust article edit, however it was not done by me. there may have been something wrong on the website, or perhaps someone was editing(vadalizing) at the same time as me. my actual edit was in fact a revert (i should have said so) to the last version before the IP edit, and I was replacing the words "though no religious group (outside of the Jews) was actually targeted for extermination during the Holocaust" that was there before. the IP before me felt that it should be removed since he quotes Hitler saying "J. Witneses will be destroyed in Germany". I feel it should be there since they were not (as a whole group)targeted for extermination during the Holocaust.
I would appreciate if you can remove the warning and reply on my talk page Shlomke 11:53, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- OK, Something is very wrong here. I just tried to edit that article again and the same nonsense hapend, ( this time just editing without reverting). Since your an admin perhaps you can figure out why this is hapening to me. Somthing like this happened to me when i edited the Chabad.org article when i edited it on 2/14/06 somehow a bunch of things got messed up in there - including my own edit of that article on 2/6/06 - and nobody noticed it till the 17th when i Realized that it was all messed up, and fixed it. mysticism tag stuff
hey 401,
your perception that mysticism is disputed is erroneous - what's happening is that the article is undergoing an expansion, and has some growing pains. Sam and I have our personal differences, but they are minor to the overall project (despite what Sam seems to think - lol). not sure why you popped in, but I think your changes were ill-considered. :-) Ted 01:00, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Your Proposed Name Block of User:Waya sahoni
Based upon queries on [English/Cherokee_Dictionary], Waya sahoni (or Waya sahani) is a legitimate Cherokee phrase meaning blue wolf, just as the user claims. Much as I would like to see a block applied to that account, I really don't think a name block is valid. I can pretty much guarantee that a name block would result in charges of racism. I'm not saying that you are being racist, merely predicting how Merkey would react based upon his past behavior. — MediaMangler 13:27, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright question
Hey there. I ran into a user yesterday who started as a vandal, but has now caught the Wikipedia-bug and is making some constructive edits. He has a question about an image he uploaded, regarding its copyright status. The user is Philc 0780, and the image in question is Image:Iriver_U10.jpg. The new method with {{SUBPAGENAME}} is nice, but has one drawback: On pages like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/Today that transclude single-article AfD pages, an AfD created with it shows "Today" as the header instead of the page name. It seems the new method only really works on the AfD page itself. I don't know whether this is better or worse than the old "pg=pagename" method. Too bad that there is no recursive subst... Kusma (討論) 12:16, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't test it, but it looks like it should work now - since it is always subst'ed, it isn't necessary to have recursive subst for this one. Now AfD'ing should be much simpler. Thanks! Kusma (討論) 13:48, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

- Good idea. But should we provide him with all the information, or is he able to do that by himself. (i.e. e-mail address to send to, violating content, original content, nature of violation, etc.) -- WB 06:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. Do you mind presenting him with a list yourself? I believe you'll do a better job explaining it. Thanks. -- WB 04:39, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
