Is there a certain area of Wikipedia that you're interested in or just general stuff? shirulashem (talk) 16:17, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually i am a lot into Canadian, Ontario and Toronto Politics as i live in Toronto. And some general stuff like fixing vandalism and the like...Ntb613 (talk) 16:54, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let's keep our general discussion on your talk page. I've added your page to my watchlist, so I'll see your changes and I can comment there. I've added a template above that should help get you a little deeper into involvement with Wikipedia. You might want to check out some WikiProjects like WikiProject Ontario and WikiProject Toronto and get involved there. Let me know if you have any questions. shirulashem (talk) 17:08, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, there are couple of tools that could be used for fighting vandalism here [[1]] which one should i use, which is better? Thanks Ntb613 (talk) 01:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You should probably start off at the top of that section where it says "old school" way. Once you do that for a while you can apply for rollback rights and use an automated tool, but that might be a little way down the road. I have to run, but I'll get back with you tomorrow. shirulashem (talk) 01:53, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are the best! Didn't expect such a quick answer. Thanks! Also is there a way to look for recent changes with in Canadian articles for example? Ntb613 (talk) 02:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I know that you can see NEW articles created with the word "Canada" in them at AlexNewArtBot. I'll have to look into the best way to see all recent changes instead of just new articles though. I know that you can do it with some of the automated tools like Huggle, but let me see if there's another way that you can use. Of course one thing you can do is build up your watch list and see changes there. Also, about our dialog, I was wrong to say that we should keep everything on your talk page. Whenever you have a new question, leave a message on my talk page and then I'll answer you there, and if I have a new discussion to start with you then I'll leave my message on your talk page and you can answer me there. Just be sure to add my page to your watchlist. :) shirulashem (talk) 13:31, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. AfC

Hi. I see you added yourself to the participants list to use AFCH. Without doing the math I think you've just barely qualified on edit count although you've had this account for many years. Please be careful as you review drafts. I don't think I would have accepted Draft:Novikombank as you just did. It doesn't pass WP:NCORP and I don't think it passes WP:GNG based on the sources. I'm not sure if that draft would survive AfD, which is our rule of thumb for AfC. Good luck in your future editing and thanks for helping end our backlog. Disambiguation link notification for September 19

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Toronto municipal election, 2014, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David Shiner. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

01:26:13, 26 September 2016 review of submission by CPBearfoot

Thank you for taking the time to review the article which is the result of some long term work. Over the time I have worked on it it has improved considerably due to the input of other reviewers. While I recognise and acknowledge that some of the reference citations need improving, I was hopeful that the article itself had now at least reached the level of Start class if not C or B. The issue regarding the LEDE is an easy fix and I can spend the next week improving the format of the remaining citations and then resubmit it. However, due to the way that the Project works, it could easily take another 6-8 weeks before anyone looks at it again. I honestly believe that it passes the notability test, that there are references to a number of respected articles (more than the bare minimum normally required) and that the general style and grammar also pass muster. Referring to the detailed criteria on Template:Grading_scheme I feel that the article passes 5 of the 6 criteria for a B class now and I can get the remaining one fixed soon. It isn't perfect, but (with my biased eyes) I would hope that it could be recognised as publishable in its current state but with room for improvement, which I undertake to carry out. CPBearfoot (talk) 01:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@CPBearfoot: Hi, while the bare links is something that can be overlooked. Having sentences that have no source cited can't. Take the time to improve the citations and leave me a note here on my page once you are done. I promise it will not take 6-8 weeks. -- Ntb613 (talk) 02:49, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just improved a bunch of citations on the page. One more thing that i just realized was the external links section. Imho, it contravenes External links, so i would get rid of it.
The main site is already linked from the info box the other ones will probably be considered LINKSPAM -- Ntb613 (talk) 03:14, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Ntb613Thanks. I've slimmed down the opening statement and referenced the first sentence. The other sentence is backed up by references further on in the article; do I repeat the citations here as well?
Re: the external references, they are meant to provide more info in the background rather than being spam. For example, it was suggested that I removed the description in the article to some of the subject's media appearances for example the Bollywood film and the charity pop video, but I thought that a reader might want to see them actually dancing so left the external links to youtube where this can be seen. Similarly, if someone wanted to read further about the tradition of using a 'beast' as part of a Morris dancing side, I thought they might like a link to a site that could offer this. Not really sure how best to help the reader whilst not appearing to spam. Your insight appreciated.
I've also addressed NewYorkActuary's concerns by re-writing the opening of the History section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CPBearfoot (talkcontribs) 12:37, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@CPBearfoot: (cc @NewYorkActuary:) - I think we are good on reference / citation front. I would ask NewYorkActuary to review the the issue he has raised and if he approves the changes you made on that i think we are good to go.
Regarding external links, i would rather get rid of them for the article launch and then you can start a conversation on the talk page, to see what the concensus is. I wouldn't be comfortable approving it with that whole section being there. But that's just my opinion... -- Ntb613 (talk) 13:42, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be happy to take a look at the revised version. However, it's unlikely I can get to it today, but I'll commit to getting it done either tomorrow or the day after. I've already informed CPBearfoot of this (via response on my Talk page). NewYorkActuary (talk) 23:52, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Eve Adams

You could try submitting a CheckUser request through Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations to determine whether CoryAllistair is linked to the IP number or not. Unfortunately there's no easier way to determine whether they're connected, as most users (and even most administrators) don't have direct access to the IP addresses of users with login names — but people at SPI have a deeper level of access to that data. However, they might also just tell you to follow the theory of "if it quacks like a duck".

For the moment, if we can't definitively establish that Cory has a COI, I wouldn't feel comfortable blocking him or imposing a longterm lockdown on purely circumstantial evidence. However, I do have the option of reimposing a longer page lock if the behaviour starts up again after the current lock expires. Bearcat (talk) 23:49, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearcat: thanks, i guess i will adopt your wait and see approach :-) Ntb613 (talk) 23:51, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this edit summary, you added a WP:BLPPROD template, which is nothing to do with notability, with the policy specifically saying, "the process requires that the article contain no sources in any form" (emphasis in original), so it is inapplicable here. If you think that the article should be deleted on notability grounds then you should start a discussion at WP:AFD. 86.17.222.157 (talk) 16:03, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review needs your help

Hi Yihyetov,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, in your recent edit on the page Mahmoud Reza Khavari, you omitted information linking him to Sam Mizrahi, when all the referenced articles appear to make this connection. Either you think published material from news sources is less reliable than your personal opinion or you intentionally trying to whitewash this case. Please refrain from removing sourced material. Masterofthename (talk) 03:59, 9 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have explained my reasons on the talk page. As a general rule in WP:BLP when dealing with Biographies of living persons you need to be extra careful when including any specific piece of info. Including a whole negative section about his son who is not notable by himself definitely steps out of bounds. Shemtovca (talk) 16:32, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your definition of attack page

You recently convinced me that the information that existed on Mahmoud Reza Khavari's page about his family's public lawsuit with Mizrahi developments did not belong to his page, since it was his son, Khashayar Khavari, who had the lawsuit with Mizrahi. I agreed with your opinion, and made a new page titled Khashayar Khavari and simply moved that information to the new page. However you deleted that page and accused me of creating an attack page. I don't really understand your logic, you said that the information does not belong to Mahmoud Reza Khavari's page, and I agreed. You also threatened me with a block for just agreeing with you. While it could be argued that Khashayar Khavari's page should not exist for lack of notability, it can not be argued that it was an attack page. Please learn about Wikipedia:Attack page and try to be more consistent with your reasoning. Masterofthename (talk) 15:19, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I beg your pardon, but I need your assistance. Back in May you accepted my AfC submission of an article dedicated to a top-ranked Russian venture investor Alexander Galitsky that was originally declined by another wikipedian who doesn’t seem to consider businesses and businesspeople notable at all. I also submitted an article about Almaz Capital (see Draft:Almaz Capital), a venture firm of Russian origin and faced the same problem with the same wikipedian. I acknowledge that one may consider that I’m simply asking for a favorable decision, but I actually need a review from an unbiased person. --Gruznov (talk) 21:16, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Gruznov: i see that you pinged the original deleting editor over 4 months ago on the talk page and have not heard back from him. Rejection of this article when there is so much coverage and the page exists on Russian wiki since 2008 is bizarre IMHO. Shemtovca (talk) 19:51, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi there. I noticed you are a proficient Yiddish speaker, and I was wondering if I could summon your powers for a very tiny bit of research: the article Jewish Democratic Committee sorely misses a variant of the name in Yiddish (it has Hebrew, which is a bit anomalous). I'm not exactly sure what the name might have been in Yiddish, and I tested a few variants that Google Translate suggested -- but there were no organizations attested under any of those names. If you could perhaps reconstruct what the name might have been, and verify usage, then add it to the article, that would be really awesome. Many thanks for reading this, Dahn (talk) 05:54, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i looked, the google translation seems correct. One other alternative i can think of is ייִדישער דעמאָקראַטישער געזעלשאַפֿט. But i don't see it used in regards to Romania either. Shemtovca (talk) 16:18, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need to merge your new duplicate article about Jews in UAE

Hi Shemtovca, there is already an article about History of the Jews in the United Arab Emirates, so please merge your new duplicate article Jewish community of UAE into the main History of the Jews in the United Arab Emirates. Thank you, IZAK (talk) 02:55, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @IZAK:, I have actually added most of this content to the History of the Jews in the United Arab Emirates first, but as that section grew it made sense to split it to a separate page. People searching for the Jewish community in UAE are not interested in the history, but rather in the current situation. So i summarized the current situation and then and moved the current info to the separate page. I noticed that one of the edits by an anon user has removed the "main" link, i will add it back. Thanks for your response. Always all the "History of the Jews in ___" articles include the current situation so it should still be merged. IZAK (talk) 18:45, 24 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@IZAK:, I looked it over again, it seems most of the new info is about JCC of UAE, so how about we merge the general info back into history and rename this one to Jewish Community Centre of UAE? Shemtovca (talk) 16:02, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That is a perfect solution. I like it. IZAK (talk) 17:51, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Maor X: as you see in the conversation above IZAK has suggested merging the general information back into the History of the Jews in the United Arab Emirates and agreed that creating a new page for JCC is a good idea. I don't want to start any edit wars, so since you have made recent changes to the page i wanted to make sure you agree to this change before i proceed.Shemtovca (talk) 14:51, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
FYI: @IZAK: & @Maor X: old page has been merged into the history and new page has been created: Jewish Community Center of UAE. Shemtovca (talk) 19:33, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well done, good job! IZAK (talk) 20:24, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
