Vulcan, Brașov

Vulcan (German Wolkendorf, Hungarian Szászvolkány) is a commune in the Braşov County in the centre of Romania, 16 km west of the county capital Braşov.

Since its founding around the year 1377 it was one of the most important villages in the Burzenland area, were there was a strong Transylvanian Saxons community.

Today, the commune has a population of about 5,200 inhabitants and contains three villages:

  • The main village of Vulcan.
  • Holbav.
  • Colonia 1 Mai.
