Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here |

Current requests for protection
Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Semi-protection. The sections starting at Toxic Release Data in the list are constantly vandalized, mostly by User:Tvoz. BmikeSci 06:34, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
List of The Fairly OddParents episodes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection. The airdates in the list are constantly vandalized, mostly by LessThanMath. --SpongeSebastian 06:24, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Full protection. Obama has been changed between a DAB page and a redirect to Barack Obama many times since December 2006. Now, there is a revert war (of which I am a part) between redirecting to Barack, and redirecting to Obama (disambiguation). There is a discussion on the matter at Talk:Obama (disambiguation) which may end in a stalemate, but I think that during the move discussion, the page should be protected to prevent any confusion, and to let us work the issues out on the talk page, and not the revert edit summaries. Neier 03:02, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am pleased to see User:Neier confess to his edit warring. Italiavivi 03:05, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Fully protected I ask that all parties discuss before edit warring again. Continuation of this behavior will result in a block. --DarkFalls talk 03:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection Vandalism and sneaky vandalism throughout the past few days. Also linked on the main page, about a week and the vandals should stay away. T Rex | talk 02:21, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Declined See WP:NOPRO. Although it isn't the featured article, the article has not been hit as heavily as many other articles... --DarkFalls talk 02:32, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection for 24-48 hours - Recent burst of vandalsim from several IP's although one in particular, but several have contributed on August 18-19.--JForget 02:17, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GoodnightmushTalk 02:26, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection Repeated (albeit slow) vandalism by the same user from various ip's starting with 70.241... maybe a week's protection or so will make him lose interest? Gscshoyru 01:41, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for one month. After the month has passed, the page will no longer be semi-protected. Acalamari 01:52, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Upgrade to full-protection. The article has been merged into its appropriate list section, but there are still users reverting the redirect to the list section. -Jéské (v^_^v Kacheek!) 01:12, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Fully protected - mudkip nonsense again. *sigh* - Alison ☺ 01:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Social apartheid (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) and Urban apartheid (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Both of these articles have been protected since July 30th. The protecting admin looks like he's away and and referred other unprotection requests back to this page. Related articles that were protected at the same time are Allegations of French apartheid and Allegations of apartheid and both these articles have been unprotected without an edit war breaking out. There has been no dispute about these articles on their talk pages since the protection so things have died down. Lothar of the Hill People 14:45, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Unprotected both. Hopefully the chill of a standing arbcom case makes the disputants reluctant to continue edit-warring. If not, please come back here to request protection.--Chaser - T 15:30, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Turned into a protected redirect June 18th, it appears without discussion or a AfD first. The admin who did so expressed concerns over BLP and inadequate sourcing. I'm fairly certain the subject didn't complain, as he's only just noticed (and he doesn't seem overly concerned about it either way), but in it's protected state no one can attempt to add sources and it seems some are being turned up off-site. It would be nice if it could be unprotected and possibly expanded. Aside from BLP concerns which have failed to materialize, it seems no process was followed to salt this properly (in fact, it was a bit of an edit war). I think it's time for another chance. --InkSplotch 04:03, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Unprotected - hoo, boy! That link is fascinating and it's clear that the subject has basically endorsed the veracity of everything mentioned in the article prior to it's being protected/redirected. The content prior to the redir, quite honestly, doesn't have anything that I'd consider to be a WP:BLP violation apart from the fact that it had been unsourced. I also note that it's been two months now - Alison ☺ 04:23, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Please unprotect or semi-protect the biography of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. I want to make some important changes. Thank you. RS2007 04:54, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
- Unprotected - the protecting admin, User:Ragib is on extended wikibreak and it's been over a month since the edit-war. Talk page looks ok/quiet. Give it a try & see what happens. I'll monitor and re-prot if the edit-war resumes - Alison ☺ 05:56, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Current requests for significant edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
- Felix Trinidad has come out of retirement again to fight Roy Jones Jr. This needs to be added to his page. This is his second retirement and worthy of edit. Please research this information and add appropriately. I would have done so but do not have the ability.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Summerofsam (talk • contribs).

Numerous requests have been placed into the talk page and nothing has been done. Kurt Angle recently won 2 more championship belts, became only the 2nd TNA wrestler in history to be a Triple Crown Champion, and is the only TNA wrestler to hold all belts at once, and yet 4 days after the event, no update has been made by an administrator. LessThanClippers 21:57, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done - I added a line to the lead, and left an invitation for the active editors to draft something better on the talk page and let me know when they're ready to move it over. - Philippe | Talk 22:38, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
Please undo these revisions: [1][2]. {{pp-usertalk}} is for protected talk pages of blocked users. Currently, when you mouseover over the protection icon, it says "This page has been temporarily protected from editing to prevent this blocked user to vandalize". Essjay isn't blocked. Melsaran 16:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
- Done Changed to {{pp-protected}}, not that I see any need for a protection template anyway. ~ Riana ⁂ 16:09, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Fulfilled/denied requests
Semi-protection More disruption and trolling by very disruptive IP editor(who looks to be still block until the 19th) after the expiry of the semi-protection including personnal attacks in an edit summary directed to Jimbo Wales.--JForget 23:54, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a day. Looks like I was the one who blocked him. Let's see if he gets bored now. Antandrus (talk) 00:13, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Semi-protection — indefinate? — for some reason, this page seems to have become a popular target for vandals. — Insanity Incarnate 23:45, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Semi-protection for probably 6-12 hours only as recently has been targeted by multiple sources.--JForget 23:02, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Article has been protected since March 10 due to persistent vandalism edits by a suspected/known sock. Protecting admin has been inactive since the end of July, although I left a note on his talk page anyway; but due to his inactivity I expect here's a better place to bring it. No disputes, no vandalism, no major reverts made. Seems clear now. AllynJ 22:53, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Semi-protection. This article is edited by numerous anonymous users with continuing disruption.--Tasco 0 18:10, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

"Semi-Protect" due to recurrent deletion of "Criticisms" section and other negative information by anonymous users. Jmegill 18:04, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. - it's not that bad yet / other anon editors are making constructive edits / it's not WP:BLP territory - Alison ☺ 19:49, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Semi-Protect due to persistant revert edits by unregistered 'fans' of Campus SuperStar who are unwilling to continue the discussion of the cleanup under talk page. Temporary banning of specific IP address seems not to be resolving the issue as Singapore ISP uses Shared IP Address. The discussion can't go on peacefully when these unregistered user/s or possible sockpuppet of a user are reverting the article persistantly. Cocoma 17:23, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- User(s) blocked. - main anon editor now blocked for WP:3RR violation - Alison ☺ 19:48, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

- Note: - the other two articles aren't that bad yet. There are a number of editors (the same ones) revert-warring. Suggest warn/report if they keep at it - Alison ☺ 19:52, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Fully and permanently protect this redirect as the AfD discussion resulted in a consensus of delete and a vandal keeps re-creating the article.
