Place {{WikiProject Geology|class=|importance=}} onto any new Geology article's talk page for it to be recognised and assessed under the project's scope. An article's assessment is generated from the class and importance parameters and helps organise relevant articles for improvement. When assessed, the class and importance parameters are filled in, like this:

{{WikiProject Geology|class=Start|importance=Mid}}

and the banner looks like this:

WikiProject iconGeology Start‑class Mid‑importance
WikiProject iconWikipedia:WikiProject Geology/Resources is part of WikiProject Geology, an attempt at creating a standardized, informative, comprehensive and easy-to-use geology resource. If you would like to participate, you can choose to edit this article, or visit the project page for more information.

Period properties

Because details of periods are continually being refined, it is simpler to maintain a central list of dates, called by each article, than to amend every article individually when things change. It also saves having to look dates etc up each time!

  • {{Period start}} and {{Period end}} return the date a period begins or ends in Ma.
  • {{Ma}} returns the same, with a wikilink to the geological time scale. e.g. {{Ma|Cambrian}}.
  • {{Period color}} returns the colour associated with a geological period (as determined by the IGU).
