Francis "Coyote" Shivers is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor, known for his work in the music and film industries.

Early Career and Musical Contributions

[edit]

Shivers began his music career by co-producing the debut single for the Canadian band Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet[1]. The B-side of this single, "Having an Average Weekend"[2], gained significant recognition as the theme song for the popular Canadian sketch comedy series The Kids in the Hall. He also contributed to the band's first two albums as a co-producer.

Shivers played guitar in the instrumental rock band Sharkskin before relocating to New York City, where he joined The Dave Rave Conspiracy as a guitarist. During this period, Shivers also made his first forays into acting, appearing in films such as Empire Records and Johnny Mnemonic. He continued to pursue his music career, forming a backing band and recording his debut solo album, Coyote Shivers, released on Mutiny Records. The album featured notable contributions from musicians like Billy Ficca (Television, Richard Hell) and Jack Pedler.

In 2000, Shivers briefly toured with the British rock band Jagged Edge. Throughout his career, he has released several limited-edition singles, as well as the five-track EP 1/2 A Rock & Roll Record. He also released the double CD Coyote Shivers Gives It To Ya. Twice, and continued to make cameo appearances in films such as Smut and Dirty Love.

Acting Career

[edit]

In addition to his music career, Shivers has appeared in various independent films, including Down and Out with the Dolls (directed by Kurt Voss)[3] and Girl in 3D (directed by Luis Aira). His distinctive presence in the entertainment industry has often led him to make cameo appearances in films, typically playing versions of himself.

[edit]

Shivers' personal life has been the subject of public attention, particularly his relationships. He was married to model and singer Bebe Buell from 1992 to 1999. In 2000, he married actress Pauley Perrette, best known for her role on NCIS. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2006, following allegations by Perrette, Buell, and former girlfriend Angela Garber of abuse, stalking, and harassment[4]. These allegations included claims of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. In 2008, Shivers was declared a vexatious litigant[5] by the Los Angeles County Superior Court, preventing him from filing lawsuits without prior judicial approval due to repeated accusations of using the legal system to harass others.

In March 2010, Shivers married Brazilian author and journalist Mayra Dias Gomes in a private ceremony in Las Vegas. The couple divorced in 2018.

Controversies

[edit]

Shivers faced further controversy in January 2021, when the Hollywood United Neighbourhood Council censured him for violations of the council's code of conduct[6]. The censure cited his failure to treat other board members and the public with respect, regardless of political affiliation.
